RE: 2020 Draft (Oct 15 w/ Aug 25 Lottery) | Mavs get #18 & #31 - ThisIStheYear - 08-15-2020 The Mavs need an athletic wing with long arms and handles who can shoot and play D. So does everyone. That player is probably the most valuable commodity in the NBA right now. Don’t think he’ll be there. At 18 you’re looking for a moneyball player who’s undervalued. My theory, these days, it’s actually a big who is likely to be miss judged by the talent evaluators or, of course, an international player (the NBA still hasn’t properly rebalanced it’s evaluations of international vs U.S. prospects, and a clever GM can get an edge in that market.) RE: 2020 Draft (Oct 15 w/ Aug 25 Lottery) | Mavs get #18 & #31 - Aussiebballer - 08-15-2020 My main concern is how many PGs are going to be available around pick 18. Hopefully the Mavs can resist and pick a wing. Wonder if they use pick 31 and future 2nds to get another pick in the early 20s. Coming away with 2 out of Green, Bey, Bey, Nesmith or Ramsey would be great. Adding wing depth has to be the main priority this offseason, starting with the draft. Mavs should not be picking for position. We have a need in every position if we are being honest. The Mavs always wanted a PG beside Luka and rightfully so. He always played beside one in Europe but never had a chance to play beside a starting caliber ball handler/PG. And Wright is really bad fit in the team and Barea should be retiring. Wing is huge need too, don't think we need to elaborate on this. We are also so thin in big man rotation, especially when we don't know when DP will return and how good he will be. Just draft best available player. Completely agree. There are several types of players who could be valuable here. One more thing...if this is a top 4-5 team in the west, then someone picked at #18 isn't going to be a factor anytime soon. This pick is for 2-3 years down the line. If someone picked at #18 is counted on to be a factor now, then this isn't a top 4-5 team in the west. Stewart has been dropping in some of the draft boards, creeping ever so close to that 31 spot. It would be great if we could find our Bridges or Thybulle with 18. Elite defense and hope we can teach him to shoot. I think there are several options that fit the description RE: 2020 Draft (Oct 15 w/ Aug 25 Lottery) | Mavs get #18 & #31 - aguiar95 - 08-15-2020 With pick #18, I agree that we should draft the best fit long-term with our team available. S. Bey, K. Lewis, T. Maxey, R.J. Hampton, P. Williams and J. Green fits the mold (not mentioning Vassell/Haliburton because they will be long gone when we pick). Since I'm very pessimistic about our chances of getting starter caliber players this offseason, I expect with pick #31 a high floor guy/low ceiling guy to contribute right now. T. Bey, X. Tillman, D. Bane, K. Tillie and M. Flynn are my names here. RE: 2020 Draft (Oct 15 w/ Aug 25 Lottery) | Mavs get #18 & #31 - dirkfansince1998 - 08-15-2020 Really hope that Cuban is willing to invest some money. According to most experts and the media (including Woj) the supposedly weak draft class in combination with the current crisis will encourage some teams/owners to sell their picks. Even a late 1st round pick could be available for cheap. A 2nd round pick basically for free. Would be nice to add some extra assets or even land a steal with a bought pick. The Mavs could trade their 1st round pick and still pick up some young talent. Would love to land both Bey brothers. Or some of the 2nd round sleepers. Azubuike as a defensive big. N´Doye as 3&D PG. This means also, that trade value of our pick is very low. I would seek following opportunities - trade up in the draft by paying cash or take medium sized bad salary. But who would be willing to trade down? Who is in such financial troubles that it would put finance before team success? Phoenix might use cap space - Kaminsky and trade down? San Antonio has 120 mil committed for next season and they would like to resign Poeltl, perhaps Forbes. I am not sure what we could offer. Sacramento perhaps? Orlando has also a very high payroll, perhaps a jump from 18 to 15 would be enough for us. The other thing are 2nd rounders. Let's be honest, our 2 way players are crap. So why not give a shot to a couple of new guys. RE: 2020 Draft (Oct 15 w/ Aug 25 Lottery) | Mavs get #18 & #31 - Mavs2019 - 08-15-2020 (08-15-2020, 01:16 PM)omahen Wrote:True. What´s the point of Antonius Cleveland for example. He´s 26 years old and has been on the Blazers, Warriors, Mavs, Hawks, Bulls, Warriors again, Mavs again. The Mavs literally picked Burke off the street to play over him. Must be a nice guy. I'll bet good money that there is a player available at #18 who ends up starting for a playoff team next year. I'm not saying that the Mavs will have the drafting acumen to get that player. I'm saying that it's a quite safe bet given NBA draft history that that player exists even in a supposedly weak draft. I also want to be clear that I do not trust the Mavs' drafting ability to get that player. Furthermore, none of us has a butterfly effect crystal ball, but I would also bet good money that, if we did miraculously happen on that player who would be the starter on the playoff team for anyone else, he'd be buried, not on the deep bench, but in the G league with this coaching staff which is so allergic to developing young players not named Luka or DFS. What I'm saying is, considering the points others made between our posts about how terrible the value of draft picks is in this draft (regardless of how good a given player drafted at a given position ends up being), there ain't much hope from my perspective to this offseason. We don't need another Porzingis, but we do need another Porzingis-level miracle in terms of bang for buck in trade for our assets, because the draft has virtually nil hope in using the pick nor trading, and we have no cap room. Edit: I keep forgetting about Brunson - the drafting bright spot in a rather wretched recent history (aside from the one time we had a top five pick, of course). He's better than most of us here generally give him credit for. The level of his quarterbacking, shooting, and defensive abilities make him a very poor man's version of what we need next to Luka, but I would say he's the only point guard on roster who is really average-to-plus-side in all of those categories. In any event, he was the second-best player available where he was drafted, so an A- to the MBT for him. Maybe they *can* draft that guy who's going to be that one available gem there, but if they do, they'd better do a slightly better job than they have with Brunson, and far better than they've done with the other young players aside from Luka and DFS over the past three years or so, in developing that guy. Mavs targets for cash considerations moves should be... Boston for a late 1st Minnesota, Philly, Sacramento, New Orleans for 2nd round picks Last season the limit for cash moves was a little over 5mio. The money could obviously also be used in trades that do not involve picks. I think the Mavs should go all in on the 2nd round this year. Mavs lack assets and a gambling on a few 2nd round talents could be worth it. It will be difficult to add qualitiy players through trades or free agency. If only one of the 2nd round players turns into another DFS, Powell or even Josh Howard it could make a big difference. Really hope Cuban is all in and willing to go full shark tank on owners that are impacted by the corona crisis. RE: 2020 Draft (Oct 15 w/ Aug 25 Lottery) | Mavs get #18 & #31 - aguiar95 - 08-17-2020 Cuban said on the Step Back podcast when asked about teams selling picks that no matter what, he's a buyer. Let's see if he puts his money where his mouth is. Time for new 2-way players. RE: 2020 Draft (Oct 15 w/ Aug 25 Lottery) | Mavs get #18 & #31 - JamesConway - 08-18-2020

Some dude posted it on reddit RE: 2020 Draft (Oct 15 w/ Aug 25 Lottery) | Mavs get #18 & #31 - dirkfansince1998 - 08-18-2020 Mock drafts are all over the place. Lottery is still somewhat in order. Late 1st round and second round are a mess. A bigman like Azubuike for example could be a 1st round pick but is also ranked as a late 2nd or even undrafted. Same for Pokusevski I have seen him as high as 11th to the Spurs but also in the mid 2nd round. Really dificult to rank players this year. No NCAA tournament or national league games in europe. Maybe not even a combine. RE: 2020 Draft (Oct 15 w/ Aug 25 Lottery) | Mavs get #18 & #31 - omahen - 08-19-2020 How about Kira Lewis? Sam Vecenie, The Athletic draft guru, can't stop raving about him. I realize some mocks have him there, but once the first four PG’s go fairly early, He’s probably next. More upside here than a lot of the players being mocked in the teens. |
