Yeah, Fish used to think this way too and scoffed at the idea when I raised it.  Then Donnie told him that Dan Fegan and Jeff Schwartz deserved rings for the 2011 championship.  Totally changed his tune.  Finding guys you trust in a field of sharks is a challenge.  If you don't see a pattern in the overabundance of Schwartz clients we've employed over the years, then listen to Donnie's words.

BTW, there are 29 other teams out there.  Teams and agents working well together doesn't mean you get every player you want.  The agent's first priority is their client.

Wish we had the ammo to move up and pick Nesmith.

RE: DRAFT: Nov 18 (Combine: Sep 28 - Oct 16) | Mavs get #18 & #31 - Scott41theMavs - 09-29-2020

We could do worse than Terry, especially given his physical growth. The Mavs may need to think in terms of replacing Brunson given his likely necessity as a trade chip.

RE: DRAFT: Nov 18 (Combine: Sep 28 - Oct 16) | Mavs get #18 & #31 - SwisherPrice - 09-29-2020

They would love a pure shooter/combo guard like Terry. Could be a long-term replacement for Seth. No defense though!

RE: DRAFT: Nov 18 (Combine: Sep 28 - Oct 16) | Mavs get #18 & #31 - KillerLeft - 09-29-2020

I like Nesmith, too.

OLIGATORY DISCLAIMER: I am not overly familiar with any of these dudes.

From what I've seen and read, I doubt the Mavs will look at Hampton, but I can see Terry being a target at #18 or a trade down. He seems to have the kind of off-ball skills they're now in the business of hoarding.

That's been my concern with Terry and Nesmith the whole way.

Ummm......what?!?!

This guy might be the sleeper of this draft. Great athlete, 88th percentile as an off the dribble scorer, wing size. Had too big a role on a mediocre team aparently which hurt the %s. Dude looks an Nba wing to me.

How far do you think we could move up if we bundled 18+31+Brunson?

Good question.

What are you thinking, Hayes? Haliburton?

I think those guys are projected far higher than that ammo would give, no?  I'm still thinking Nesmith.  And then you could start thinking about using Curry in trades down the line.

@"cow" sorry, just assumed you were after an on-ball type, due to Brunson's inclusion.

Yeah, if you re-sign Burke and trust him, I can see it. I like Nesmith, but I'm not sure I like him enough to do that. I might do it for Haliburton (Ringer has him at #10) or Vassell (Ringer #11) though.

If Nesmith is your guy, I think there's an outside chance he's actually there at #18. If he's not, I don't think you'd have to move up that far to get him.

Thanks bud. I'll try to come around a bit more.

I don't have time during my work day anymore due to farthing of career the last year or so... So I'm less invested in conversations.
Also I kind of faded away when the old board faded away ha.

I just don't understand rating a guy that high who isn't good at defense. If he falls to you and you believe in your heart of hearts there's no one better, I s'pose. But move up to take him? Nah.

I guess I'm looking for a guy with an elite skill.  Middle of the round feels okay for Tyler Herro comp.

I'm just skeptical of drafting a guy who doesn't play defense for this Mavericks team. We need one-three starters (depending on how you evaluate whom we currently have). Until Luka becomes a plus defender, we're going to need for all of those guys we add to be very good to great defenders. As I've said before, if we're not going to get a starter out of this draft (e.g. Saddiq Bey), then we are probably best off trading the pick for someone who will be. That said, if they don't think they can get a starter at 18, I would rather they move up to get someone who will be, especially for the value of those on rookie deals.

I'm skeptical of drafting a guard period. We have so many options that can produce in the short term and a great crop of free agent guards next summer (if you don't already trade for one).

The forwards are our biggest weakness and not exactly great options in free agency moving forward. And it sort of feels like everyone always need good wings compared to good guards, like there is a constant shortage of them.
