I think Beal genuinely doesn’t care. I think he self aware and knows how much power he has.

And I also think he’s not very motivated to give that power up

It's not like Beal is a bad player.  He's had good shooting percentages, plays a well-rounded game. There was some drop-off to his offensive production after being traded to the Suns, but on a team with Booker and KD, that's understandable.

Availability hasn't been good - averaging about 50 games a year for the past several years.

At $20m/yr., you'd probably say "Good value!".  But at $50m....

I suspect he understands that, at age 32, he's not ever getting a deal like he has now.

He's always struck me as a pretty competitive guy.  I wonder if that's faded, or if his wife just loves Phoenix so much that he'll never voluntarily leave.

@TheSteinLine

Jonas Valančiūnas is traveling to Greece per numerous reports and hopes to be released from his NBA contract after Denver acquires him Sunday from Sacramento to join Panathinaikos.

The Nuggets’ consolation: They would gain access to their full MLE.

This is the first hiccup in an otherwise masterful off-season, given what resources Denver had available. Usually, I assume that teams know about stuff like this far ahead of us, but in this case I get the vibe that they really wanted Valanciunas to play for them. Not sure, but that's what I think.

Who's still out there, even?

For centers? Barely anyone left. Genuinely believe the best center left is Kai Jones.

Interesting. I wonder who's still in the market (maybe Denver) and if they have any interest in a high mileage Dwight Powell model.

Truthfully I think they just go back to Deandre Jordan and hope he can play.

I also vaguely remember them drafting a center last year who unfortunately tore their Achilles his first summer league game.

Maybe he’s ready to go?

Houston traded Whitmore to Washington for 2 SRP. Good deal for Washington, imho

Very good. Kinda pointless for Houston, unless they give the two 2 SRP to Lakers for a DFS S&T.

Watch his highlights and he looks like an Allstar. I assume there is something wrong with the lack of interest and low return.  Usually these thing don’t end great.  With that being said. I love this for Washington. They have nothing to lose.  Only upside.   Whitmore also grew up close by in Baltimore.  Prime opportunity for him to be a productive player and not just a highlight player.

@ShamsCharania
Free agent center Jock Landale has agreed to a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies, sources tell ESPN. Landale solidifies the Grizzlies frontcourt as the team and his agent, Sammy Wloszczowski of SIG Sports, reach terms.

Denver trade up in last year’s draft to snag 6’10” PF DaRon Holmes II. There has not been anything in the local news here about him since his injury.

DEN has solved their C issue, with no real work to do so. They simply said no to JV's request to be let out of his deal and play elsewhere.

Yeah but then you have a disgruntled player who doesn’t want to be there and probably won’t play well anyways, akin to Lamar Odom.

In theory, true. But potentially career suicide. And NBA can (and perhaps would) block him from ever playing in Europe again, if he pulled a stunt (deliberately not trying, when under contract) like that.

Cuban had recourse w Odom but chose not to use it.

If Devin Booker signs a 2 year , 150 million extension does he pretty much make himself untradable? Very good maybe even great player but how many teams would be willing to trade for 75 million dollar player (and give up good assets). Just curious if I am missing something.

Yeah, i agree…. Can’t see how that works out too well..

At the same time, he’s under contract and obligated to fulfill…

@ShamsCharania
Denver has informed Jonas Valanciunas' reps that the franchise fully intends to have him honor his contract as the Nuggets view Valanciunas as a critical center addition to back up Nikola Jokic and play alongside him. Greek team Panathinaikos pursued Valanciunas in recent days.
