In that case, it's logical to assume LBJ is majorly miffed, and since he has ALWAYS been catered to by everyone, it could be really interesting how it plays out.

The Trail Blazers have unsuccessfully been attempting to offload Jerami Grant’s contract.

Paid $102.6 million over the next three seasons with declining production, Grant’s contract is viewed around the NBA as a negative asset.

Jonas may go back and play in Europe. I have no idea how that affects the Denver and Sacramento trade.

I do wonder if we see more of this from this type of player moving forward. Mirotrc went back to Europe a few years ago as others have done. Typically it is when the nba doesn’t want them any longer. The money is better the nba, but something to be said to be one of the best players in a league as opposed to a solid role player.

With the new cap, they are going to find it hard to move him.  With three years left do they keep hm for two and the. Eventually buy him out. 30 million for a guy like that is going to be a no from other nba teams.

So funny. THIS is the move we'd have seen Dallas make this summer (not Durant) if they hadn't won the lottery.

Not suggesting this, but even now I could make a compelling argument that swapping Grant and PJW would improve synergy on this roster. Grant plays both ends (so does PJ), can shoot (so does PJ, but Grant is better) and can CREATE (PJ cannot).

Now, with Flagg though, this has almost no appeal. I'm not ready to call Flagg the point forward, but I am way not interested in putting a roadblock between him and the opportunity to grow into that role.

Cronin should've made the deal last year when Harrison wanted him.

But sheesh, what would we do w yet another F??? No money, no minutes, no roster spot - yep, Lebron is on the way!!

You'd let him run the offense which is obviously the biggest weakness of the team until Kyrie comes back and our big team just gets bigger.  He still incredibly productive and would probably be even more so in this scenario since he wouldn't be required to play nearly the minutes as he does in LA.

I don't think it will happen as I don't see a buyout being a real possibility.

Would I trade for him?  Possibly, but I don't think the Lakers would give up what I'd require to make the deal.  I'd also have to talk myself into being in the LeBron business for three years not to mention working that out with his camp and our salary cap.

[Stein] The agreed-to trade between Denver and Sacramento to swap Dario Saric for Jonas Valanciunas cannot be made official until Sunday. The Kings still need the trade to go through for salary cap reasons, but the Nuggets’ ability to convince Valanciunas to stay in the NBA is TBD

Jonas Valanciunas is close to leaving the NBA for Panathinaikos despite recently signing with Denver Nuggets, reports @Urbodo

@TheSteinLine
League sources confirm that the lure of a return to Europe holds strong appeal to Jonas Valanciunas … which could lead to him seeking a buyout from his NBA contract to join Panathinaikos as @Urbodo reports.

Would scuttle what seemed like such a promising addition for Denver.

He’s a decent player, but makes too much money. I guess Portland thought he was that “one missing piece” that would put them over the top, so okay to overpay.

Lots of deals like that. Teams get enamored, or desperate, and fiscal restraint flees.

I’m looking at you, Myles Turner!

They were entertaining hours. That was the important thing.

[Charania] Free agent center Jaxson Hayes has agreed on a one-year deal to return to the Los Angeles Lakers, sources tell ESPN. Hayes' agents, Bill Duffy and Marlon Harrison of WME Basketball, finalized a contract with Lakers president Rob Pelinka on Thursday.

This reality is not just applicable to 30M level players. Its the way a Hard Cap World works at every level and we are seeing that at play. Harsh but real.

Grant got that deal because the "market" said so. POR listened to the market. Mistake.

I think that sort of choice (but made differently) was why Turner.ended up in MIL. Looks to me like the Pacers decided that in the bigger picture, Turner is simply NOT a 25M player. If he gets that from someone else, so be it, as they need to pay a whole team, and every salary has a ripple effect on the rest of your roster -- with a limit on total spending to deal with. MIL was willing to overpay (imo) and off he goes. But in the long run, who actually did a better job at building their roster?

Roster-building is no longer about having cap room or exceptions today and outbidding other teams. A player has to be able to play for you at a level that is proportionate to his contract, or else you better not bother. And there may be bargains to be had if you pick your spots and are patient.

See Martin, C. and Hardy, J.

N.O. is not expected to move Herb Jones despite some
very questionable moves this off-season.

You know I have been arguing against people lusting for JG for quite some time as a very bad value play. He stopped playing real D once he got paid by DET and never started again. He WOULD BE excellent value if he was still a plus defender, but that ended in Denver.

If Nico stupidly wanted him at some point, thats on Nico.

Your "compelling argument" for JG vs PJW ignores the limits in spending facing every team. The massive diff in salaries is (or should be) altering values of each player in huge way. I think PJW is actually a better player anyhow (good D vs no D) but the salaries makes it not close at all imo.

RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Winter - 07-03-2025

The funny thing about Grant is that every year he seems slightly more complacent. I got to the point where I had to ask myself if I was actually wanting the JG of 5-6 years ago or am I imagining all this. I'm really not sure because I don't watch him much anymore, but it sort of feels like he's just punching a ticket every game. I don't see much emotion from him and he seems content on being with mediocre teams. Someone could probably prove me wrong with stats, but that's the way it feels.

I'm not arguing that Grant is worth the contract (especially right now, with everyone slamming against the 2nd apron) but I watched him play quite a bit over the past few seasons, and he does still play defense. Possibly better than PJW, if you catch him on the right night.

And that's coming from one of only two people who wanted PJW here, promising all the people against it that HE was a good defender.

I don't know why we're sooooo quick around here to proclaim these things about players in such a binary way. It's dismissive and sucks the fun out of everything. The reality is that there are good teams and bad teams (due to wiiiiide range of factors, some of which have nothing to do with players, even), and it's really tough to predict what effect on a player's performance might occur when moving from the former to the latter, or vice versa. Obviously, Grant is not on a level where he changes your team from one end of that spectrum to the other - I'd say his Portland stint has established that conclusively, but I'd also argue that Denver's team would've been far better since he left there had they prioritized him over MPJ. He's a much, much better player than that guy, imho.
