RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 10-10-2020 I like Justin Holiday a lot depending on the price. Another idea tagging onto the Seth for Richardson thread. You trade Curry for Richardson, then Wright/Jackson/18 for Schroder. Schroder would replace Curry's production. Not sure if Dennis would co-exist well with Brunson. I would try to re-sign Burke as well. It's a lot of guards for sure but it makes at least one of those guys disposable at some point (TDL or summer). Rick would have some figuring out to do in terms of rotations. Guys get hurt so I don't mind have 1 too many quality guards. Mavs would also open up a lot of cap space but have a fallback plan of resigning some combination of Schroder/Richardson/THJ. It's good asset management from my perspective. Not to mention the recruiting angle... And I don't think Jrue is a max player, so it doesn't matter if we sign Justin on a multiyear contract RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - DanSchwartzgan - 10-10-2020 (10-10-2020, 12:45 PM)omahen Wrote:(10-10-2020, 12:27 PM)DanSchwartzman Wrote: How valuable would it have been to have this guy on the roster instead of Justin Jackson? Not to mention the recruiting angle... So, lets put Justin on the roster and follow the Powell is a starter theory we discussed the last several pages... KP/Maxi Powell/WCS DFS/Holiday THJ/Curry Luka/Brunson I’m OK running like that for a year. If Giannis wants to come here, we are basically trading THJ, Wright, what it costs to dump Wright and Maxi to clear the room for him. That is probably worth it for Giannis. But I think that team needs more playmaking. Do you go after VanVleet (S&T in 2020)? Wait a year for Jrue (I agree about him being less than a full max)? Try to trade for him now (good luck). Try to trade for Oladipo now (more realistic)? You get the right guy in that playmaker slot and we are pretty darn strong. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - dirkfansince1998 - 10-10-2020 In my opinion the reasonable approach would be to build the roster around the assumption that Powell is dead money. Any on court production he provides is a bonus. That´s the sad reality of achilles injuries. They bite, absolutely, because 1) they need shooting, and 2) Seth and Doc are friggin' family. Hey, if I'm wrong about Richardson's creation limitations, then I'm all for the trade. I think it's fair to say he's not a patch on Jrue, Schroder, or Haliburton, but those guys would probably be harder to get. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - Mavs2019 - 10-10-2020 I´m just exhausted. Call me, when the draft is happening. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - KillerLeft - 10-10-2020 Yeah, we’ve talked it all to death. For giggles, I just read through an off season thread on an Orlando Magic Forum. I wanted to see what the current temperature is on Isaac and his injury. Let me tell you all this: there are far worse teams to be following right now than the Mavericks. Those dudes are miserable. I do think once the finals end activity will pick up. Not sure when trades can happen but at least we should get rumors. I'd love to flip Powell and Jackson for Gordon and make their life just a bit more miserable when RC has him starting living up to his potential lol. As a fall back option, I'd love to flip those guys into AG as a sort of reclamation project. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - aguiar95 - 10-12-2020 After carefull considerations regarding the prospects available at #31 (most of the guys I like will be out of the board or go late), I'm a lot more inclined to trade #31 to unload Wright/Jackson and bring in a veteran expiring. Here are the names I like so far: J. Johnson (MIN), R. Gay (SAS), T. Ariza (POR), D. Exum (CLE). Other option is to trade #31 and them for air to teams with cap (ATL/DET/CHA), clear some cap space and offer a big-ish (12-15M) 1-year contract on a vet that can help with what's left of our cap (assuming the cap stays the same) like Millsap (DEN) or Gallinari (OKC). Keep flexible for 21' and improve our roster. We could also try and move up in the draft. NOP (#13), ORL (#15) and POR (#16) are some realistic ones. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - omahen - 10-12-2020 (10-12-2020, 09:59 AM)aguiar95 Wrote: Gallinari Since you mentioned him, I wonder what his market will be. It makes more sense for Miami to extend Dragic and Crowder than to offfer him a big contract. This means he can either: - stay in OKC (likely rebuilding), - sign with one of the "losers" (Atlanta, Detroit, NYK, Charlotte) - doesn't really fit their timeline. Not a great fit in Atlanta that already has Collins/Capella under the rim - look for SnT - sign for MLE Phoenix seems like a very good fit for him and they have two ways to get him. Renounce all free agents (Saric) and team options (Kaminsky) or trade Oubre for cap space. You are severely underrating Aaron Gordon's market value. He is not a guy they have to dump for our trash. Magic can get back a good player or two and/or pick(s) for AG if they decide to move him which they don't have to do right now. He still has 2 years left on his deal at very reasonable money. He still has 2 years left on his deal at very reasonable money. I read through a Magic forum's off season thread the other day. Now, this thread was created by a collection of 'tards the depth of which I've never before encountered, but I found the hive mind there pretty interesting. Apparently, there are exactly two players on the Magic roster that their average fan believes worthy of a job in the NBA: Gordon and injured Isaac. In fact, the injured Isaac is literally the only one they are actually excited about. The entire thread could be summed up with the following statement: "no matter what, even if you get nothing back for them, you have to find a way to get Fournier and Vucevic off of this roster." I was busting a gut laughing at these people. The next most commonly agreed upon concept (though, again, by 'tards) was that in order to improve the team in any way it was time for the Magic to move Aaron Gordon because "he's the only asset we have that anyone could possibly want." Probably not true, but still hilarious. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - cow - 10-12-2020 Vucevic for nothing sounds great. Yeah, half want to trade him for nothing, and the other half think they can get Jaylon Brown and the Celtics' top draft pick this year. It seriously made me wonder what another team's fan would think if they read our threads. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 10-12-2020 (10-12-2020, 11:59 AM)KillerLeft Wrote: The next most commonly agreed upon concept (though, again, by 'tards) was that in order to improve the team in any way it was time for the Magic to move Aaron Gordon because "he's the only asset we have that anyone could possibly want." Probably not true, but still hilarious. I don't see any reason why they couldn't get something good back for Gordon. Not sure what that would be exactly but something. They have a log-jam at forward, but Isaac is hurt which to me would mean maybe they just wait to move Gordon unless a great deal comes along. Their team is not bad they have Fultz who looks better there, Ross, Fourner, Gordon, Vuc, Isaac, Aminu. Bamba is pretty much a bust. If they could get a playmaking guard they would be in better shape. Fultz is sort of that on paper. They have solid players but no real playmaking stars. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - Omega_Supreme - 10-12-2020 Something is definitely brewing with the Knicks and Magic as its being reported that they are interested in Dennis Smith Jr. I love Aaron Gordon, he is the perfect fit for us and I would actually play him at the 3 as opposed to the 4. Not sure what a package would look like but it sounds like the Knicks may shop their pick and go after free agents. Little to none free agents want to be the savior of NYK. And this free agent class is barren of the upper echelon of stars. Knicks throwing away their lottery pick to get rid of the lottery pick they traded for in the deal where they traded away their all star big man would be the most lolknicks thing I've seen in a while. Anyways, I'd Gordon. We've all talked him to death. He'd be a great fit here. But I doubt the Mavs can compete with a hypothetical package where the Knicks send their lottery pick.
