But, I consumed a ton of Clippers content before the series, and most of their scene (podcasts, mostly) thought he was likely to get completely edged out of the playoff rotation, at some point. I got the impression he hadn't been a very valued player that season. Was his playoff showing a mirage, similar to Trey Burke's in the bubble the year before? What's interesting to me is why we're pigeonholing ourselves into a PG when it feels like we're really just after someone with just enough play making ability so that Luka has someone to dump the ball off to when being doubled in the playoffs. When I look at it that way then I'm hoping that Fournier is being considered, he's not a true PG but you can't just leave him to double Luka the way you can with THJ/Maxi/DFS because he can put the ball on the ground enough to make you pay. After guys like Lowry and Ball and maybe Powell he seems like the obvious choice to try to pair with Luka, signing Schroder as a plan C or D would make me very sad to be honest. Luka sitting in game 3 is probably where the series was lost, but he can't play 48 minutes a game. One thing that I believe might be part of the thinking, but that will drive people around here crazy, is that Luka is very clearly not an on-ball solution against PG's defensively. During each of the last two off-seasons they've targeted PG or hybrid guards, and I think starting a smaller, quicker player with a career's worth of experience defending the point of attack might factor into that thinking. Now that we know Holmes is looking at around 60/4, would the difference between say THJ starting salary and Hield $22.5M be enough to bridge that gap? So the full trade might be Bagley 11.3 + Hield 22.5 = 33.8 for THJ 16.5 (starting salary) + Powell 11.1 = 27.6 Difference of 6.2 allows Kings to retain Holmes. Gosh I´d love that deal so much. And the Kings even have some use for Powell as a back-up given how thin their frontcourt is. Okay more realistically it would be Kleber, but I´d still do it. Then I´d ask for a 2nd round pick thrown in. Maybe Mavs like Woodward or Ramsey. Ya that definitely seems to the be desired route but I really hope we don't get fixated so much on that fit that we forget about, ya know....talented basketball players that can help move us forward because I don't think Dimwiddie or Schroder will be doing that. Dimwiddie doesn't even fit the definition we're looking for since he can't guard a bank with a machine gun so I am happy that he hasn't been linked to us all that much. We KNOW the SAC owner loves Hield, who has always been his favorite toy. I find it credible that the only way they'd move him is to rid themselves of Bagley, and that keeping Holmes might just be the motivational nudge that makes it all happen. I like Hield, but I think I've given up on Bagley. If it's for Powell, sure. If it's for Kleber...I think I'd be disappointed. But, maybe I'm just overly attached to our guys. Give me Hield. 3/70M at age 28. THJ's career year last year wasn't as good as Buddy's career average. And Buddy hasn't played with one of the best players in the NBA yet. Don´t think that a controverse statement. Question is if they need another small guard next to him or if they can find a wing that can do it. I think the player though who can make plays alongside Luka should also be able to double as the person who can keep us in the game during the moments Luka rests. I guess you can say that he is able to step his game up and produce when competition is tougher. No doubt I would prefer a playoff performer than a glorified reg season stud. What you read might play into my concerns about him...I saw an interview this post-season of him saying he was about to retire a year or two ago but the Clips gig presented itself and he thought it might be a good fit and it ultimately has worked out. I dont know if that was a made for tv response to his current situation...but if the guy is kind of on the fence about playing...thats a red flag. His name got a lot of attention in the playoffs for his performance and maybe that has rejuvenated his desire to play basketball and cash in on his high stock...but his on the fence comment is a concern. And I like him compared to shelling out 30M for others. Bagley is a prime buy low candidate. We are talking about a guy that averages 15/8 in 26 MPG over just 114 career games. He could easily do a Julius Randle. People act like he´s Anthony Bennett. Getting picked between Luka, Young and Ayton has driven down the perception about him. Sure there are question marks about health, defense, attitude, but imho nothing major that a 21 year old can´t fix or overcome. Also is a contract year for him and you control him via RFA. Hield´s contract will likely also be shorter than THJ´s new contract, and it´s decreasing so the annual salary will probably even overlap in two years. Both NO and DAL are in flux about Lowry favoring Miami. That said, making Luka happy is a priority and adding Dragic helps that. I am being told that he also helps as they plan on trying to land a star as well. Dwight Powell is who Dallas is targeting to send to Toronto for Dragic in a three team deal (MIA/TOR/DAL). Resigning Tim Hardaway is seen as urgent for Dallas. Dallas is looking at centers as well. One center that has come up, Daniel Theis. Dallas wants shooting all around Luka. " I mean i would take an offseason of THJ back, and Dragic / Theis added to the roster. Kleber or Theis from the bench, and you have a solid big men rotation. Theis is basically in the ballpark of Kleber in terms of role player tier for me. That team would be deeper compared to last season. If Josh Green can crack the rotation, and KP gets hopefully better the team is likely improved compared to last year. Would also like Danny Green and/or Batum, if one of those guys would be possible. RE: 2021 FREE AGENCY: MIA favs to SnT for Lowry - dirkfansince1998 - 08-02-2021 Based on the last rumors. Resign THJ, trade for Smart, stay over the cap and offer Theis the MLE. Find new homes for two out of Powell/WCS/Burke. RE: 2021 FREE AGENCY: MIA favs to SnT for Lowry - VintagePejav2 - 08-02-2021 Not sure why people are fooling themselves into DeRozan. The numbers don’t lie - his teams are better when he’s not on the floor. You think DeRozan is going to make things better with pouting Porzingis. Well, that's the part I meant that I thought might be controversial. If the rumors (and actions of the past three seasons) are true, it seems they DO think a guard-sized guy is needed here. I don't think everyone here would agree, but I can see where they're coming from. Quickness has not been among the Mavs' strong suits, recently. |
