Lonzo is the easiest to imagine. 10 mil contract. Chicago has no direction.
A guy like Hardy makes a lot of sense for them to be honest.

What if our real tradeable assets are Naji (9), Martin (9.5), Hardy (6), and OMax (3)?
Naji can reliably create his own shot which will be valuable off the bench. Hard to think O'Max has any value unless you don't watch any of his Mavs film where he almost always looks lost.

Naji can definitely do that, but if we can use him in a trade for a guard, I'd rather let Naji go than PJ.
OMax probably doesn't have any heavy trade value aside from being a young prospect that could develop into something. He still has 2 years left on his rookie deal which is enough for a flyer and is cheap enough any team would be happy to absorb.
I just see Gafford and PJ and could realistically think that at some point they will be sorely needed as the regular season wanes. Lively+AD could/probably get injured and if we don't have Gafford we'd be relying on Powell+Kai Jones.
PJ is such a versatile flex 4 that if we need to slot AD at the 5, we could still play PJ at the 4 and everything works.
I see that and I am just not very motivated to move on so quickly from that kind of depth.

I wouldn't want to give up that LAL unprotected pick, no.
Take that out and it starts to look good. Just my opinion.

Nope. And if the Mavs believe in defense as they claim, they aren't remotely interested in him anyhow, at any price. He doesn't play a lick of defense.

Not that I'm all that interested in Sexton anyhow, but if THAT's the sort of value the Jazz would expect to get for Sexton, they should be prepared to keep him. No one's going to make them an offer anywhere in that vicinity.

I think CHI sees Coby as a keeper and part of their path forward, which means thinking of him as a trade possibility (and trying to figure out the right trade) would be a dead end.

Sexton has developed into a really efficient scorer, especially his 3pt%, but he only hoists it 4.3 times a game (Josh Green hoists it 3.6 times, Hield 6.7). If he could increase his volume at similar efficiency and increase the volume, he'd be much more valuable. I used Josh Green as an example bc it was maddening how little he shot the ball, especially from 3.
Now defense... Dfg% of 47.3 is awful. He's a matador.

Yeah, probably not a savior at PG, but above PJW, Marshall and Christie in terms of ball-handling/creation for sure, and would be a nice piece of the guard rotation even after Kyrie comes back. Good two-way guy. Multi-positional. CAN run some offense.

You need to forget about any player who is a FA (as most of those are going to be) and that has enough value to attract suitors. The Mavs have no money to offer (except a minimum and MAYBE a TxpMLE, which is not that big and is super unlikely to attract anyone of value). And by rule they are not allowed to acquire a player via S-n-T.

I've always been high on Giddey. He truly has incredible upside still. He went insane at the end of the regular season. His rebounding and assist numbers are Josh Hart-esque.

I thought he was the sneaky good signing last off season. Didn't pan out. If he is 80% of what he was in MEM, he's worth a try.

Not so good, but if he passed extra court issues is a good pick.
Bruce Brown is another great target.
All around player and 6th man of the year material.
But we need a floor general PG first... Giddey, CP3 , Micic or something like them.
Tyus Jones is pretty mediocre but he shot 40+% from 3s and he can set up some plays.
Nothing special but a solid player, obviously very bad on defense.

I'd like a trade for Giddey but at this point, the Bulls would think twice even if the Mavs offered them AD.
As for the trade..
Mavs get Krejci+Niang+Mann+pick 22 (Walter Clayton)
Lakers get Gaff+Martin
Hawks get Vando+Vincent+future first
The trade is basically for pick 22 in exchange for Gafford who the Mavs wouldn't pay and Martin who is insignificant at this point. The fact that they are adding 2 PGs in this deal (Clayton and Krejci) is a win. Niang and Mann are for salary matching purposes, they can waive both if needed. But Niang serves a purpose as a backup PF who can shoot from 3 while not demanding PT. If PJ gets traded, Mavs would need a backup or a third option PF.
And Krejci? Remember how Nash was boooed till kingdom come when he first got here? Unimpressive numbers, played behind Kidd and Kevin Johnson.
Krejci is a playmaker, not the typical PG but he does handle the ball well. And these are the type of guys the Mavs could get cheap but has the potential to be so much more. You won't get an established PG with Gafford.
