I don't think it's in stone yet because this is looking like a tank year. If it happens again within the next few seasons when there is nothing to tank for then it's in stone imo. RE: MAVS NEWS: - michaeltex - 12-10-2025 I keep reminding myself that some HOF centers like Chandler and Walton had lower leg/feet issues early in their careers, but went on to have great success. I guess the question is, "will this resolve his issues so he can be a big contributor next season"? Also, when is his extension due? If we can get Mathurin then sure, but I don't think there is much chance of that. If we start next season with AD, Lively and Gafford it makes less sense. Is there a chance to extend him for a reasonable amount next summer - or still a year too early? I mean I feel sad for him, because it more than stunts his development - but maybe we could have him overperforming his contract if all goes well, and from a team building perspective it’s a win in the end, if we want to compete with Cooper still on his rookie deal in three years? RE: MAVS NEWS: - RoyTarpleysGhost - 12-10-2025 Feel for Lively personally. I still see him standing up on the bench rooting on his teammates. Seems like a great kid. As for his role on the Mavs or a possible extension, you don't worry about any of that. He needs to show he can stay healthy before he's part of the picture again. I wonder if this changes the Mavs thinking on an AD trade. Instead of Jaden Ivey and 2 first rd picks, would they be more likely to take Jaden Ivey, Isiah Stewart, and 1 first rd pick? (same with any ATL offer) RE: MAVS NEWS: - RoyTarpleysGhost - 12-10-2025 Kia Rookie Ladder: Cooper Flagg leapfrogs Kon Knueppel for No. 1 Dallas' standout rookie has stepped up as a go-to guy and moves into the No. 1 spot as the Top 5 undergoes big changes. 1.Cooper Flagg 2. Kon Knueppel 3. Derik Queen 4. Cedric Coward 5. Jeremiah Fears 6. VJ Edgecombe 7. Dylan Harper 8. Ryan Nembhard 9. Ace Bailey 10. Ryan Kalkbrenner Never heard of Ryan Kalkbrenner. Am I a casual? RE: MAVS NEWS: - F Gump - 12-10-2025 (12-10-2025, 02:48 PM)Knutsen Wrote: Is there a chance to extend [Lively] for a reasonable amount next summer - or still a year too early? The window for an extension opens and closes next off-season (July 1 to opening day). The chance of an extension actually happening was 0 already, and it's still 0. The Mavs won't want to pay very much for an injury prone player who sits as much as he plays. DL won't want to be locked into a small contract. So they will kick the can down the road a year, observe what he does (and his health) in 26-27, then do the RFA thing in 27. RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 12-10-2025 If the AD offers are really low, it may be best for another calf strain to pop up. Isn't the best case maybe for a young running mate with Flagg in the draft and AD and Kyrie back next year? If you get the running mate to Flagg, i could care less if they kept or moved AD. In fact, his salary slot may be more valuable to me than the player. But I can sniff out a Cuban coming like I´m a cigar connoisseur. And do we really expect Finley (who apparently didn´t have the balls to sabotage the Luka trade) and a nobody like Riccardi to tell Cuban that he is being a utter moron again. We all know who the real GM is. Just get ready for more culturing. Mavs are doomed. That makes a lot of sense. The only question is how they can make it happen. By losing basketball games. It´s very simple. Kyrie is not coming back. Lively is already out for the season. 16 of the last 19 games are away from home. Shut down AD, Gafford, Klay, Christie, Washington after the ASG. Nembhard/Russell Williams/Kelly Flagg/Exum Martin/Marshall Cisse/Powell No shooting, no defense = losses. RE: MAVS NEWS: - KillerLeft - 12-10-2025 Kind of happy about the Lively news (kind of). Sink or swim this season without him. No matter how things go from here, they’re not getting past the 2nd round, even with him, and if things tip the other direction they’ll lose more easily without him. Meanwhile, they’re doing this so freaking early that he’ll likely get a clean, fresh start at the beginning of next season. That’s so much better than trying to nurse 5 games out of him here and there in a lost cause season, then doing the surgery over the summer, carrying the thing into next year. Get it fixed and see if he can make it work. RE: MAVS NEWS: - Knutsen - 12-10-2025 (12-10-2025, 05:39 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: Kind of happy about the Lively news (kind of). I don’t know if that team made the injury worse, but I do think the recent change in overall philosophy is part of why they are shutting it down for the season instead of trying to nurse him through it. I flatly don’t think that would be happening if Harrison was still here, because I think every decision they made would be about proving this team can compete. That’s kind of what I meant when I said I liked this news. They need to focus on whatever this foot problem is until it is better or it isn’t, not pretend it’s not there.
