RE: MAVS NEWS: - cow - 11-11-2025 (11-11-2025, 07:38 PM)F Gump Wrote: I would also guess both ownership and Cuban may explore Cuban having some say again, probably as an advisor to Dumont, as a safety net if nothing else. Really not sure how to feel about that guess if it is true. I do believe Cuban as a safety net would have prevented the Luka deal from happening, but he's also a big reason why we spiraled down this path in the first place. RE: MAVS NEWS: - windjc - 11-11-2025 Cuban is the root of the culture of failure in the franchise. An idiot man child who lucked into a fortune but has the brain of a pee. Then we are completely screwed for years. I agree that your way is the best for a great return assuming he doesn't suffer a serious injury. Achilles injuries are really scary. I feel like the Mavs are playing with fire if he plays another minute. Yes an Achilles injury would be a major problem. Many other injuries would as well, of course. But it is rare to see a player traded while he is injured, because the other team doesn't know what they are getting. The return is likely to be lowered a lot. So you are saying if AD ever plays another minute, he will probably have an Achilles injury? Based on what? You can't remove that problem? IMO the answer is to get him 100% healthy and then play him the right number of minutes. Monitor his health diligently. I have no idea if he will get injured or not, but we have all seen big time players over the years come back from achilles or calf related injuries and then pretty quickly rupture their achilles. I guess if you want to play him to raise his value, he probably needs extended rest to be safe on it healing properly. I definitely don't want him rushed back to show his value unless he's truly healthy. RE: MAVS NEWS: - Benskix2 - 11-11-2025 Even if you think Davis is 100% right now, there is a very low chance of him staying 100% for more than 30 days based on his career. The chance that he does something on the court to improve his value is soooo much smaller than the chance that he looks worse than people remember or injures himself that it isn't at all worth the risk. We need to move him as soon as possible. "I guess if you want to play him to raise his value, he probably needs extended rest to be safe on it healing properly. " -- Yes, exactly. There is NO RUSH. The part about showcasing him only begins when he is fully healthy and when there is a real expectation he should be able to stay healthy. If he misses every game until December, or until we see Kyrie, so be it. The main thing is to be healthy. But I don't see a plus in skipping the showcase part, where teams are given a reason to wish they had him. Build value. THEN trade him. imo RE: MAVS NEWS: - Jym - 11-11-2025 So Davis is eligible for a massive contract extension this Summer that will pay him until he's 38? He won't be a free agent. His team won't be under the gun to have to do something right away. A team only extends if (or when) they want to, and the size of extension is fully negotiable. That definitely has to be part of the discussion if you're considering trading for him. One of the many reasons I am glad Nico is gone is the danger of Mavs giving him that extension has passed. RE: MAVS NEWS: - DanSchwartzgan - 11-12-2025 Matt Riccardi Interview. Mark Cuban is where the blame ultimately lies. Not sure why he needed a couple more billion dollars on top of the billion he already had. RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 11-12-2025 I don't like this ownership group. In fact, not like is probably not strong enough word. I don't want to tell people how to root, but I hope the majority of the fan base recovers and begins rooting for this team. Sure, the last year has sucked and has ripped a really good team/oe of a kind player away for no reason. Mavs got lucky though and probably have the player that basically every franchise would covet. We have that already. I will not be rooting for the Mavs to lose. I expect they will be in the lottery regardless. I don't want to spend my whole year rooting for losses when we just saw the Mavs received a lottery ticket and teams who tanked all dropped down. You have that guy already. You just need to be a competant franchise and make smart decisions. I am sure the players are frustrated and I don't blame them. I understand the fans frustration too. You saw Cooper's mom already really question the last game and fans chanting in a close game. I hope we move past this now. Not forget but look forward. You remember all the excitment seeing Luka's growth and his unexplainable greatness? Who knows if Cooper will get there but lets enjoy it and enjoy basketball again. RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 11-12-2025 Our old friend Iztok with an article on Mavs and going forward. https://digginbasketball.substack.com/p/aftermath-nico-harrison-departure RE: MAVS NEWS: - mvossman - 11-12-2025 (11-12-2025, 10:23 AM)Chicagojk Wrote: Our old friend Iztok with an article on Mavs and going forward. I love his stuff and agree with everything he said. Interesting that he endorsed Lindsey. I also agree (although he didn't go this far) that Kidd needs to go. He was part of the decision to trade Luka (no matter how much he tried to distance himself) and he is not the right guy for a rebuild (or an offensively challenged roster). So we get mad when our local owners get too involved in personnel decisions and don't listen to the guys they hired to run the team, and we also get mad when ownership listens to their GM/coach. I've already stated my opinion that I put 95% of the Luka deal on Nico/Kidd, so I'm not ready to pull out the pitchforks for this ownership group after then just excised a big part of that decision. RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 11-12-2025 Just great….from the latest athletic article Monday’s loss to the Bucks marked the sixth straight game Davis has missed with a left calf strain. Multiple league sources said Davis has tried to convince the Mavs to let him return to the court, and Harrison urged him to return, but the team’s medical staff forbade it, citing the potential for a torn Achilles if Davis returned too soon. RE: MAVS NEWS: - KillerLeft - 11-12-2025 (11-12-2025, 08:47 AM)Chicagojk Wrote: I don't like this ownership group. In fact, not like is probably not strong enough word. Absolutely. The fans got Harrison fired, no question about that. Mission accomplished. At some point, if the negativity continues, it will just serve to make us all (the Mavs fanbase) seem toxic and stupid. Punishing PJW for missing a free throw needed to tie a game by immediately raining down "Fire Nico" is not a great look, imho. At some point, the world doesn't care how we're feeling. We would do well as a city to move on from all of this and be about embracing the Flagg era, or HE might start looking to get out of this toxic sludge pool at some point. There comes a point when we're just hurting ourselves, the fans, not the people we're booing. |
