Really glad to read that report from MacMahon. If Dumont is personally involved in the decision to allow AD to play that tells me a lot.

First, it answers a question we've all been asking. Does Dumont even care? This combined with the report from Stein tells me he does.

Second, there must be a reason why Dumont doesn't want AD to play when AD himself thinks he's ready to go.

I don't think Dumont is an idiot but I also don't think he knows what he's doing in running a basketball team. He's being advised by someone outside of the organization and at this point I don't care if it's Cuban; Bain or McKinsey; the ghost of Red Auerbach; or Dirk himself. He has to be looking at options and that's a good thing.

FIRE NICO

If he does pull the trigger on Nico, my guess is he goes with a comfort hire.  My biggest fear is he moves Kidd into that position.  That is why I am hoping for Linsey.  He has GM experience, recent experience with this FO, and is associated with most of the good and none of the bad regarding recent FO decisions.

Finley? Can be a good GM? Maybe just until the end of the season...

That's exactly what I expect will happen, should Harrison be fired midseason. Finley will act as interim for the remainder of the year (probably with Dumont and/or Cuban really making decisions) until they can address it more permanently, at which point anything could happen.

I don't know if Harrison would have survived with a real PG and a 50% season but he decided to commit suicide...

He has to be the dumbest or most arrogant individual to run a sports franchise. The Luka trade is devastating for us as fans. I'm still not recovered.  But from a basketball standpoint. Luka is just amazing and we had him. This guy gave him away to his buddy in L.A. on  75% discount. Pennies on the dollar.

Lets say you HAD to trade Luka. Anyone with half a brain would have auctioned him off during the off season to the highest bidder.  We would have gotten 5 1st round picks and several good young players. Completely re-set the franchise.

Yes i do believe the #1 pick and Cooper Flagg was part of this trade. You cant convince me otherwise.  But still. A package of Davis, Christie, Flagg, 2 first rounders is not enough for a superstar like Luka in his prime.

I'd love to know what some teams would have given up at that time had it been done correctly.

I wonder how that works.  Can he be hired away mid season?  It would be a promotion for him.  Not sure if that is something that is or can be done?

As I posted above, he's currently the Senior Vice President of Basketball Ops for Detroit. I doubt he's leaving anytime soon, as I'm sure he's been part of Detroit's resurgence. They currently have the best record in the East at 8-2, which is kind of surprising, but it's early.

Trust between Dumont and Harrison has completely disintegrated.

Man, if this is true, it's due 100% to this abysmal start to the season, rather than any kind of analysis of recent operations.

Harrison had (somehow) survived the unparalleled backlash from the end of last season. That, honestly, represented a huge show of faith from the Governor and Adelsons, particularly because they seem to have purchased the team specifically as some sort of "good will trojan horse" toehold into DFW. I can't imagine they thought in a thousand years that their activities with the Mavericks would produce the OPPOSITE effect (DFW all out hating them), so the fact that he wasn't fired within a month of that universally hated trade tells me they decided to get Harrison's back out of some type of principle...or, they just really admire how he handles his business...or something.

All Harrison and Kidd had to do was bring a team and system to the table that could play credible NBA offense to start this season, and none of this would be happening, I don't think. If Harrison gets fired, he truly has nobody to blame but himself. I didn't think it would happen, but I also never imagined the team's start would be this terrible.

RE: MAVS NEWS: - Nowitzki Way - 11-10-2025

I've seen names like Bob Myers and Masai Ujiri mentioned. Anyone interested in them? Rick Welts is already here, so why not Myers too?

Hate to beat a dead horse, but I'd love Meyers...as long as he brings the next Steve Kerr with him.

Or let Steve come on over next year. His deal expires at the end of the season. I think.

He recently left ESPN for what appears to be a big role for a company who owns the sixers and flyers.   I assume getting away from the talking heads may have been a factor too.  IMO, I think he is probably past being a GM.  I am sure he has had offers.

Massai is an interesting name.   Although his last few years are very questionable.

I am sorry, it can't be Finley.   They will need to spend.  It is an attractive job imo.   Seeing what they are willing to spend will show me their commitment.

Also, please no more Cuban in a decision maker role. Lets move forward.

RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 11-10-2025

Rick Welts made some weird comments after the trade.  I mean he was put in a no win situation though.  Welts is a pro.  I have wanted him to gain influence as a sounding board.  He is not basketball guy but he has been around enough to know what a competant organization is.  My hope is he would not let this get too much off the tracks.  I hope that is happening.

I don't...think...Finley will get the actual job, but I also don't think they'll hire the guy minutes or hours after Harrison is fired, IF he's fired midseason. I fully expect Finley to be announced as interim GM should this happen. Someone has to be, after all.

RE: MAVS NEWS: - KillerLeft - 11-10-2025

Thank God for Cooper Flagg, tbh. Without him, I'm not sure how many people would even WANT the job of cleaning up after the Luka trade. It's not exactly going to be easy. Flagg at least represents an interesting starting point.

Myers left ESPN as an analyst to become president of (HBSE) Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, managing principal owner Josh Harris's sports teams, the Philadelphia 76ers, Washington Commanders, and New Jersey Devils. He's obviously not available.

I mean GM is a bigger role than that, right?  He is not making final decisions currently.  He would have the opportunity to build around Flagg without dealing with Cuban or Nico.

Depends if he wants to leave. If Dallas offers him more money to be the president of basketball ops, I'm sure that's a possibility. But maybe he doesn't want to leave?  Dallas doesn't look like a model of stability currently.

HoosierDaddy is also a Pistons fan, I believe, so I can understand how he'd be protective/resistant to ideas like this. To be fair, DET does seem to have something good going, so I kind of agree that people might not be looking to jump ship from that organization right now, even for a promotion. There might be better promotions just around the corner if they can keep that project on track a while longer.

But also, I still do NOT understand this board's fascination with Linsey. He might be great, don't get me wrong, but there is nowhere even close to the amount of evidence supporting that conclusion as what's circulated in this echo chamber on a daily basis. That is maybe the most grasping at straws thing I've ever read in this community, which is really saying something.

He happened to work here when some good moves were made. Agreed. Not all of them were good, and they tried to make some that I believe would've numbered among the team's worst deals of all-time while he was here, too. The truth is that none of us have the first clue what even his role was here. Like, at all.

As long as it's not the actual Kerr.  I would completely quit watching if his smug little mug is on the sidelines.

So, Kidd signed an extension in 2024 and another on last month?  Every article I read said terms weren't disclosed.  How long is he signed for now and what would his buyout be?

RE: MAVS NEWS: - Kidnova - 11-10-2025

Do we know how plugged in McMahon is these days? It seems like he drifted outside of the inner circle towards the end of the Cuban era, and I have no idea if he has any relationship with the new owners. I want very badly for him to be correct, but just not sure how much weight to put on his tweet.
