The pressure has to be building against Dumont. He knows that every day this drags on he's accumulating more and more responsibility. You could almost forgive him for trusting a guy he thought constructed a roster that went to the Finals. But he absolutely can't be forgiven for continuing to employ that person once it's clear he made the worst trade in the history of professional sports. In a league that trends young and Mavs somehow have Kyrie, Klay and AD as projected starters. There is literally no team competing for the title, where the oldest players are nearing their mid 30s. Lakers have Luka. Houston has Sengun. If you want the Warriors and Clippers are the exceptions and they started 5-5 and 3-5. Look at the damn standings. The top of the NBA is YOUNG legs.

This is what I am thinking about too. Lets assume Dumont does care about the team, although it is far from given. Even if he does, he is obviously not a basketball guy. So who does he lean to for advice on who to hire. Guys in the organization are likely all Nico guys and are unfortunately part of this mess.
I guess best way would be to hire independent consulting company to conduct the GM search process and come back with best name. Basically what Cubes was claiming he will do after firing Donnie, but than just hired Nico and Kidd. However, all of this costs a lot. And I come back to my basic question - is Dumont really prepared to pay big for all this changes. I am affraid the answer is no.

Maybe somebody convinces him that Linsey was the real architect behind the team getting to the finals. I don't know if he would be the best choice or even a good choice, but he does have prior GM experience as well as Mavericks specific experience. He also wouldn't cost as much as a highly sought after target, and it would be easier than doing a legit search.

Seriously Mark has a chance to go scorched earth because this front office never speaks. He could throw everything against the wall. Say I really wanted to resign Jalen but Nico really wanted Fred Van Fleet. Or early in our finals run, Nico was fed up with Luka and tried to talk me into moving him for Zach Levine. You could literally throw out anything and not be surprised.

He's going to pay one way or the other. It will either be to shake things up and attempt to hire competent management. Or he can pay in reputational damage, loss of fan interest, and luxury tax payments for a non-contender.

I'd be on board. Lindsey would be the simplest way to get someone competent in that role immediately.

If you are longtime fan and historian of the Mavs you can find heavy correlations between this team and the 1990-91 version.
Just two years earlier, in 1989, the Mavs went to Game 7 against the Lakers in the WCF. They were considered to be one micro move away from being the top contender. However, because of a clash between management and coaching with their top player, Mark Aguirre, they took a big step back the next year to the 8th seed.
The Mavs had traded Aguirre and decided to build around Roy Tarpley, a super talented, but mentally and physically troubled PF. They dealt away all their young assets and a bunch of 1sts to build what was considered a DEEP veteran team.
On paper, their backcourt was considered what this years' team's frontcourt to be (Derek Harper, Ro Blackman and Fat Lever). They traded for Rodney McCray (OG PJ Washington) and signed Alex English (the highest scorer in the NBA in the 80's) as a complimentary bench player. They even had a rookie lottery pick, Randy White, who was dubbed "The Next Karl Malone."
And you know what? It didn't work. They were such a mismatch of talent that they quickly spiraled into a bottom team. Plus, it didn't help that Tarpley (AD) blew out his knee six games into the season.
Things never bounced back. They wound up getting the sixth pick in the 1991 Draft and took Doug Smith, a soft, unskilled big man. The worst part was they couldn't let go of thinking they were just one move away from contention. The Hornets had the first pick and offer it to the Mavs for #6 and Derek Harper and Dallas turned it down. That pick would've been Larry Johnson. Yes, that would've been admitting that the contention era was over, but rebuilding around "Grandmama" would've been the right move.
This Mavs team needs to take a step back and do the same.
