Conley will be a year older and wasn’t all that good last year. They need to make a move 1) The Conley deal isn't disaster grade (yet), but was also nowhere near the deal they thought they were getting. 2) Gobert is, imo, on his way to becoming Roy Hibbert. Apparently I'm not the only one who feels this way, because there's a lot of controversy over whether or not he's gong to get what he thinks he deserves after his contract expires. He's already passive-aggressively tweeting about this, even though he still has a year left on the deal. This is not a great situation. He might be traded, he might be let go after expiring, who knows? But, he doesn't seem happy. If they let him go or trade him, they are set back a bit, losing a piece they've clearly been building around, and if they pay him what he thinks he deserves, they're stuck with a highly paid Gobert on their roster. To me, it's lose-lose, and there are many tense, strained months ahead, either way. 3) Want to list places where people want to play way less than Dallas, based on lifestyle? Utah would be pretty high on that list, my dudes. 4) What in the f does "Jazz" have to do with Utah? This is probably what held Stockton and Malone back, as it has got to be a distracting question that randomly pops into your head at random moments, like when you're trying to beat Jordan at the end of a finals game, for example. LOL. I have a confession to make. Commence ridicule upon receipt of said message. When you mention Utah in your first post... I had Memphis in my head. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - Jason Terry - 09-23-2020 Grant was phenomenal last night guarding Lebron and AD. Nuggets also looked good with their closing lineup of Grant, Millsap and Jokic all on the floor together. I would take any of the 4 forwards on Denver and Miami that are available. Full multi year MLE except for Millsap just 1 year RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - KillerLeft - 09-23-2020 "Memphis Jazz" would be significantly better than "Utah Jazz" so it's easy to see how the brain could make that mistake, pal. It's not your fault the Jazz's entire existence as a franchise is pointless. No need to picture them clearly all, so no ridicule here. It's just that they fulfilled the entire point of their existence in 2001. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - DanSchwartzgan - 09-23-2020 Man you guys are prolific. I'm busy for a day and 12 pages go by. I can't keep up. I did notice a couple of names from older discussions recycled and it made me think of a new possibility...Plan Powder 2022. What is going to be the thing teams want off of now and at the TDL? Money longer than 2021. It will be the "buy low" part of the marketplace. Trade for Gordon...UFA in 2022. Sign DJJ to the MLE with two years guaranteed...UFA in 2022. Trade THJ's expiring 2021 for an expiring 2022. Maxi is non-guaranteed in 2022. Luka has a $25mm cap hold. KP is $34mm and you have one year commitments to Powell and Seth. Committed salary is about $78mm. Add to that cap holds on Brunson and DFS totaling about $11mm and the hold(s) on whoever you bring in (in this example Gordon and DJJ) and you have rights to good players and flexibility. The other thing about contracts that expire in 2022 is they are expiring deals in 2021 and useful in a trade for Giannis. See you in a day or two. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - Jason Terry - 09-23-2020 This may seem crazy but as a backup plan to Giannis i could get behind Paul George. The reports are that he had beef all year and in the playoffs with the rest of them team. Failure next year and the hate he would receive would run him out of town. Dallas would come with low expectations and pressure. Should he be humbled by his LAC experience and he is open to fitting in i think he would be a great fit. Could even come at less than max something like 4/100. He’d be a defensive wing stopper(his best trait IMO) and would only be counted on as a 3rd option offensively RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - ItsGoTime - 09-23-2020 (09-23-2020, 12:01 PM)fifteenth Wrote: No other team, in fact, did.In fact you say...I wondered if the Mavs were the only team that put in the work to get that opportunity. Now I know cause it is a fact. Good thing you have that insider info. They were lucky and good enough in this instance that NY was dumb and didn’t do their due diligence by shopping their unicorn when they decided they would part ways with him. Not all deals are even close to that kind of luck. Also, luck is not a bullet point you put into your strategy. Very happy they had it going for them for that deal. Not gonna put my hopes into that happening again. If there are LOTS of teams gearing for FA 2021, the Mavs should absolutely hop off that boat and find another one. When the market they are in is crowded with teams it will hurt the Mavs in the long run. They need to march to the beat of their own drum. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - fifteenth - 09-23-2020 (09-23-2020, 01:23 PM)ItsGoTime Wrote: In fact you say...I wondered if the Mavs were the only team that put in the work to get that opportunity. Now I know cause it is a fact. Good thing you have that insider info. The reason I call it a fact is because, as you say, the rest of the league didn't even know KP was available. Literally, the Mavs are the only team to put in the work that made them the only team in the league to know that KP was available. I guess the reason I'm engaging in this back and forth, which I suppose isn't proving to be very productive, is that it seems like you're dismissing a Mavs win based on reasoning that you could use to dismiss any team building win by any team in the history of sports. Some kind of Wright upgrade/dump centered around #18 2. THJ stays 3. Short-term or partial MLE used on player(s) 4. Powder saved for 2021 |
