RE: 2025 draft thread: THE MAVS WIN THE 1ST PICK - Winter - 06-14-2025 While we've covered Walter Clayton in this forum, there hasn't been a single mock draft where he was listed outside the mid-to-late 20s. Probably not the pure PG, but I can see the Mavs interest. That sounds like “back end of the first round” to me. RE: 2025 draft thread: THE MAVS WIN THE 1ST PICK - loki - 06-14-2025 Traore would be an interesting high upside pick. I've seen him mocked anywhere from the lottery to the end of the first round. Sadly I doubt he's the kind of player Nico would take. Clayton is the safer pick if you want an immediate contributor. RE: 2025 draft thread: THE MAVS WIN THE 1ST PICK - myconsumerclub - 06-15-2025 We need Best Player Available no matter what pick we can grab. RE: 2025 draft thread: THE MAVS WIN THE 1ST PICK - SleepingHero - 06-17-2025 @esidery The Pacers are open to trading the No. 23 overall pick as they will venture into the luxury tax for the first time in 20 years to keep their core together, per @DraftExpress (https://espn.com/nba/story/_/id/45515479/2025-nba-mock-draft-59-picks-trade-talks-heat-30-teams). Indiana could end up flipping their 2025 draft pick for added flexibility. RE: 2025 draft thread: THE MAVS WIN THE 1ST PICK - SleepingHero - 06-17-2025 (06-17-2025, 08:35 AM)SleepingHero Wrote: @esidery Assuming that Myles Turner will get his 30mil per year extension, the Pacers will be roughly 3 mil over the 1st apron line by a quick glance at Spotrac. Also assuming that the Pacers would like to avoid the 1st apron, could the Mavs potentially send Hardy+ 2029 FRP for TJ McConnell+23rd pick? This deal does avoid the 1st apron for IND by about 1 mil. The Mavs conversely add about 4 mil to their payroll (plus the 23rd pick rookie scale), but do solve the need for a PG. That would probably fall into the too-good-to-be-true category, but Dan or FG would have to talk contracts for me to sound educated on the subject of the trade. After watching McConnell last night, Indiana would be crazy to get rid of him, but they are reluctant taxpayers... so maybe. One thing that occurs to me. People talk a good bit about a player we add needing to fit with Kyrie. But, if we are going back into the draft to fill a need, shouldn't we be thinking more about such a player fitting well with Flagg more than Kyrie? I get it that some 30-something needs to fit with Kyrie. I don't see it with some 19 or 20 year old. For instance, we tend to gravitate to larger guys with PG handles (but most of them don't shoot it very well). If the idea is for this guy to play with Flagg the next 10 years, isn't Jace Richardson's shooting more important than the passing ability of some of these other guys? He definitely has some "short"-comings. But, he looks pretty dynamic in the right role. Barlow made a pretty strong case for Yang as a second round center idea if the plan is to trade Gafford. He will be targeted on D, no doubt. But, the passing is pretty impressive. RE: 2025 draft thread: THE MAVS WIN THE 1ST PICK - Chicagojk - 06-17-2025 Givony dropped Ace Bailey to 6 in his latest mock. Said he has perplexed teams as he has not had a known workout yet and has declined invitations by several teams in his pick range. I believe he has a workout scheduled with Philadelphia, but there is some thought he may have interest in a team picking a little later. Just by watching his videos, you can see why there is a debate about him. He could be really good. On the other hand, he could be on his third team in four years as well. All I know about Morey is he will take the guy who he things will be the best player. He won't draft on position. He will pick the player he thinks who is best. A1 vs A2 is an almost pointless distinction. They won't trade TJ -- the idea of shedding the pick is to allow them to KEEP their core of which he is an ongoing part. I think you are WAY high on Turner. I'm expecting 20M or so. He's not THAT special. RE: 2025 draft thread: THE MAVS WIN THE 1ST PICK - F Gump - 06-17-2025 Players I see as either dropping or ending up being flops re their draft are A Bailey and D Queen. Not saying Mavs should be interested in case they drop but rather both have way more issues than the hype accepts. The difference between a 15th player on a minimum and a 15th player who was the 23rd pick is about $1.0mm. So, this saves Indy $5.2mm and costs Dallas the same. FG has already dealt with the Indy side of this. For the Mav's, it puts Dallas further into the second apron. Even if Kyrie extended for a starting number of $38mm, we'd still be over by $1.6mm and would want to get under and have a cushion beyond that. So, something else needs to happen (or Kyrie needs to agree to something lower than any number I've seen suggested anywhere). Personally, McDonnell isn't worth $10mm, but I like the concept of doing a player + pick deal where you are making an attempt at both timelines where you get an older guy and a younger guy. My valuation on Turner isn’t coming from my own personal thoughts on what he SHOULD get. I don’t think he deserves more than that 20 mil number. But his camp is demanding a 30 mil a year type of extension. He could easily force a trade to another team willing to give him that given how desperate some teams are for a center. I think IND will oblige closer to that 30 mil number than the 20 because of Turner’s role and years with the team. And if they do give Turner that 20+ mil extension, they will be over the tax line. They have about 19.5 mil of space before the tax line. They are already vocal about moving their FRP for air tells me they want to avoid any aprons entirely. Watching him in the finals, I'd be hesitant giving him anywhere near that number. I get that he's the longest tenured player and a good dude, but geez, he's probably not worth half of that in this matchup. Am I crazy to think the Mavs could get Edgecombe and Harper for Kyrie + AD. Has there ever been a team build on the top 3 picks in the same year going to the same team? Just clean the cap, build around these three and next summer Kidd takes Nico on a trip to the Slovenian Alps, where Nico has an unfortunate incident with a brown bear and Luka re-emerges from the tunnel... Harper/Christie Edgecombe/Klay Doncic/Marshall Flagg/Washington Lively/Gafford That´s OKC on PED. ![]() RE: 2025 draft thread: THE MAVS WIN THE 1ST PICK - cow - 06-17-2025 (06-17-2025, 12:28 PM)Mavs2021 Wrote: Am I crazy to think the Mavs could get Edgecombe and Harper for Kyrie + AD. Maybe take away the girl drama and there are better results.
