In other news, Zach Lowe says he's hearing Boston could be a facilitator in a Durant deal with Jrue Holiday going somewhere besides Phoenix. Phoenix seems to want a center and has been turned down on Poeltl and Ware and probably doesn't want to pay Gobert. Maybe Gafford ends up in Phoenix, Holiday ends up here and Durant ends up with one of the rumored destinations.
No matter how you slice it, you eventually need someone in the deal who can take back more salary than they send. You also need someone far enough below the second apron that they can send out multiple players and stay below the second apron. That would seem to favor SA, Miami, Toronto and maybe the Clippers over Minnesota or Houston as the Durant destination. Dallas would still need to get enough salary combined with Gafford to cross over Jrue's $32.4mm number and would need some method of being under the second apron after the deal.
Edit: In this construct, you have to figure out what else Phoenix wants besides Gafford. You also have to figure out what Boston wants. I could see Boston taking back an expiring lesser contract. For instance, it would make great sense if they ended up with Harrison Barnes for a year. The Clippers and Miami also have medium sized expiring contracts on useful vets who could step in for Tatum (or Jrue) for a year.
Under this set of assumptions, Phoenix has Booker, Beal and Gafford as starters. So, they need more salary from us and more from the KD destination to fill in their rotation.

That's my concern as well - I would be very surprised if Nico traded for Jrue without sending away picks.
A good GM would treat it as Boston needing to pay a premium to get salary relief, but Nico would treat it as what do I need to pay to get Jrue.

Bulls are morons. For the first four years of their careers most people would have taken Cole Anthony straight up. I´m 80% certain, Anthony could put up the same numbers on the Bulls given the same amount of minutes. Also the math doesn´t add up, unless the Bulls plan to let Giddey walk while under RFA. This sounds like a Bulls leak to put a ridiculous price tag on White. I bet they don´t even want to extend him on 20M+ p.a.

It really does feel like there are a lot of very eager teams to make trades happen. I could see this being almost a watershed year for multi-team trades. There's a certain desperate feel from both Phoenix and Boston to make deals. LA desperately needs a center. Chicago has some things they need to do. Even the Knicks are feeling the pressure. Oh, and add the new NBA tax structure to all of this.
It's a pretty interesting landscape for trades in general.

I wonder if starting tomorrow if this week is going to be really fun? With the draft on wed and the finals over tonight, I wonder if we see some really creative and out of the blue bigger trades?

I don't think Dallas ends up with a early 20's pick, although if they did and wanted a guard you can really tie yourself into a knot on your preference between Walter Clayton, Jase Richardson and Traore. All offer different strengths and weaknesses.

Eh and the crowd goes mild. If Durant was still all that the Suns would have been better. Teams just ignore the age/injury/defense factor like with LeBron and he´s a poor leader on top. I´d actually say a net negative in the leadership department and not exactly what you like in a young-ish locker room.

that PHX team was awful. KD is older and needs more help, but he is still very good. He needs rim protection behind him. PHX had him way too much being the longest guy on the court. You also can't ask him to be the #1 wing defender. I think he is still a good defender but it needs to be managed. Houston has those things. KD will fit in really well. He will get you 28 a game on near 50/40/90, plus a guy to run offense thru late. I think he will really help Houston. They still have plenty of assets. I have no idea how PHX couldn't even get Whitmore who really does not have a place in Houston.

I get the age injury history narrative. But KD isn't a bad defender, and they still have Thompson whose excellent and Eason, and Smith. They also can make more deals with those picks. If KD can stay reasonably healthy, the Rockets are right there at the top of the West.

I'm just ambivalent about the whole trade. KD is never happy no matter where he goes. He should not be the leader of that team. I think it's possible someone else takes the leadership role and I think they would be better off if that happened. I think Houston still needs a trade or two to get in the mix.
