Not sure who the NBAinsidergoat is. LOL. It doesn't come close to the Dallas anger, but I would imagine the Jazz fans are upset. They have been irrelevant since they traded Rudy and Mitchell. They have a ton of picks but really haven't hit any home runs yet with their picks. They have been hoping for a star to turbo charge their rebuild and the freaking Lakers trade for Luka.

And yet there are so many loop holes an untrained person in contract law could miss that opens them up to get bit in the butt.

Maybe SGA is confident in his abilities and confident that OKC won’t f him over, but negotiating a 300+ mil contract without representation just seems like an unneeded risk.

He will get legal representation. Paying a lawyer 500$ per hour is far better investment than getting commission.
Plenty of soccer players do the same.

$500 hr? Dude, that’s so 2010.

Borrow some boilerplate from Paul George.

Now thats a dude I'd like to throw the kitchen sink for. Maybe not as dynamic of a scorer as KD but he'd still fit the mold and is young.

Mavs would be huge too. Kyrie+Klay+Lauri+AD+Lively SHEESH

RE: AROUND the NBA: - LukaMVP - 02-20-2025

lauri's D is mediocre which means he wouldn't fit the current defensive theme of the mavs, and he would cost too much knowing whom their GM is and what a complete idiot our GM is.

RE: AROUND the NBA: - F Gump - 02-20-2025

NBA contracts are NOT created from scratch. The wording is all standard, its total length is 46 pages including exhibits, created as part of the CBA (mutually agreed on by league and players' union), and then there are blanks to fill in.

The 1st 28 pages has the meat of the agreement with no moving parts - fixed wording, with blanks for date, player, team, length of contract, and agent (if any). It cannot be changed. The last 18 are 12 possible exhibits, but 9 would be obvious/super-easy with SGA:
Ex 1A that pays minimum -NA
Ex 1B designating player as 2-way - NA
Ex 2 compensation protection - 100%
Ex 3 prior injury exclusion - none
Ex 4 trade payments - max/15% of contract
Ex 6 physical exam required -yes
Ex 7 agreement to stay in shape and provide best effort - yes
Ex 8 sign-and-trade - NA
Ex 9 NG camp contract - NA
Ex 10 NG camp deal with tie to GL after waiver -NA

That leaves Ex 1 compensation ("max salary every year" is allowable wording afaik, but he might want wording as to an option year, and no incentives are allowed). Ex 2 compensation protection (which would be full, but has some possible negotiable parts on exceptions for prohibited activities), and Ex 5 other activities [that are allowed] which may be a matter of negotiation given the massive size of the deal.

SGA would certainly want a lawyer and expert on the CBA to help fill in the blanks and perhaps offer some guidance on some details like an option year, but as long as the team is in "whatever you want" mode, it's not going to take rocket science.

Just In: The NBA has suspended Milwaukee Bucks' Bobby Portis for 25 games for violating the league's anti-drug policy, sources tell ESPN.

Knucklehead.

Wemby out for the year with deep vein thrombosis in shoulder.

Wow!  At least its not a leg issue.

Who was the guy who had something weird like this that ruined the end of his career? Was it Chris Bosh?

yes

He had it in his lungs, then in his legs, then had to call it quits.

Yikes.

I mean DVT is treatable, but it’s not something you want your 21 year old franchise star to have.

RE: AROUND the NBA: - michaeltex - 02-20-2025

Ausar Thompson (Amen's twin) was shut down on March 20, 2024 for blood clots.

Brandon Ingram was shut down in early March 2019 for similar reasons.

So it's rare, but it happens. Tough news for Webby though.

RE: AROUND the NBA: - Chicagojk - 02-20-2025

That sucks. You had to wonder if they would have turned the corner down the stretch. Probably too late for the playoffs but maybe something to build on for next year. I gave him so much respect for actually caring in the all star game too.

RE: AROUND the NBA: - HoosierDaddyKid - 02-20-2025

Yes. Tough blow for the Spurs. But you can't take chances with your franchise player. Blood clots ain't no joke. They also can lead to amputations. Shut him down.

Knowing the Spurs, I'm highly suspicious on this. My initial thought is that they are deftly making sure the tank for Flagg will be as effective as possible, even after adding Fox, by shutting down Wemby "out of an abundance of caution." The intentional, targeted tank has been their game plan for decades. They are basically in 9th lottery slot right now with 23 wins, but have a realistic shot of getting to 6th, from where a leap to the top 4 (all at equal odds for pick 1) would not be that surprising of an outcome.

F Gump, I didn't look at it from that angle. Pop probably isn't coming back either, until next season if he doesn't decide to retire. You might be on to something...

RE: AROUND the NBA: - Ghost of Podkolzin - 02-20-2025

SAS would never sit their superstar center to tank and get the first pick of the draft, right?
