RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - Mavs2019 - 09-17-2020 (09-17-2020, 11:49 AM)KillerLeft Wrote: Here's a great discussion by NBA players about the importance of experience and the impact it has on the appearance of ability. It's not exactly on the topic of continuity, but I believe it indirectly underscores some of what I was saying yesterday. Dame is talking about learning stuff in the summer between his 1st and 2nd year, but we know of course that it takes some players considerably longer to elevate their understanding of the game. Also notable Boston S5: 25.8 years old. Denver S5: 27.0 years old. 24.4 year old when Porter replaces Millsap. Miami S5: 28.8 years old. Lakers S5: 30.6 years old. Talent aside, I guess the conclusion to draw would be that to be successful young, you need continuity. You need less continuity, when you have more experience. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - Jason Terry - 09-17-2020 (09-17-2020, 09:54 AM)StepBackJay Wrote: Would you trade Curry, Wright, #18, #31 for Oladipo (assuming you also get no assurances he will resign)? His market value is affected by his contract status in that presumably no team trading for him will know for sure that they can keep him in 2021. In this scenario you shed 16 mil in 2021 salary so you have a lot of money to add new FA's in 2021 whether or not Oladipo is resigned.No. We need more winning players and can’t afford to send someone like Seth out. The NBA every year moves more and more to the 3pt and position-less basketball. I don’t see why on earth we would trade one of the best 3pt shooters in the game on a favorable contract for one year of a guy who could turn Rondo RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - ClutchDirk - 09-17-2020 https://twitter.com/JLew1050/status/1306648402046971905 RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - omahen - 09-17-2020 (09-17-2020, 12:45 PM)Jason Terry Wrote: No. We need more winning players and can’t afford to send someone like Seth out. I don’t see why on earth we would trade one of the best 3pt shooters in the game on a favorable contract for one year of a guy who could turn Rondo Wow, you are pessimistic. Simple fact is we have to improve to contend. While it is possible Oladipo never goes back to his best self, it is also possible he does. While Oladipo could choose to leave after the season, he could also stay. So if Mavs think Oladipo can return to his all star days and he is open to discussion about 2021 free agency, they should absolutely pull the trigger on this one. If not, than they should not trade for him, someone who wants to win now will. My first impression was the trade was light, but Oladipo really is a polarizing option. Risks involved regarding his health and free agency. Someone would really have to be sure he will stay to pay much more. Although, Indy already has their "Seth" on the bench and he also came from Dallas. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 09-17-2020 I do think Pacers will move Oladipo just because they know it would be hard to resign him. I could see many teams making some good offers. I saw this trade idea from Bucks which seemed interesting: https://www.nbaanalysis.net/2020/09/16/b-r-suggests-bucks-trade-centered-around-pacers-star-victor-oladipo/ Bledsoe + DiVincenzo and a 1st round pick could be a pretty good haul for them. I am not sure the Mavs could beat that kind of offer and I imagine the Bucks would be pretty excited ab that type of move. I have to think Oladipo and his agent have at least a little bit of sway here, regarding his likelihood to re-sign for certain teams. This might impact the offers Indiana gets. I could see many teams making some good offers. Ya absolutely. I like that Bucks idea. I think any team that's a contender would have a good shot although from what I have read Oladipo also wants to play in a big market. There's all kinds of interesting trade ideas out there. I mean you could have GSW make a play, Wolves, Knicks. Any team giving up a top pick would have to have an extension in place. T The advantage of say the Bucks, Mavs for example is that I don't think they would have to have a contract extension to pull the trigger. The Pacers are in a great spot to cash-in. Like you say tho if his agent says there's only 3 teams he will resign with then the offers the Pacers will get aren't going to be nearly as good. I read that as let's see what happens next year and then we'll go from there. In my view the Bucks are on the clock to make this a legit winner. It reminds me some of OKC in Durant's last year when they were making moves like bringing in Oladipo. Durant gave up after losing to GSW and joined them the next year. I know they’re gonna put me in the best situation(position?) to be successful with the team or another team. But the other day(end of the day?) I had a great conversation with the owner and as I know so far we're on the same page. I wanna be in Milwaukee for the rest of my career. But at the end of the day we gotta want the same thing which is a championship. The mere fact that Giannis said "To be successful with the team or another team" is enough for me. The seed is planted. He's open to leaving. I think he wouldn't mind staying in MIL for the rest of his career. And as long as MIL gets to the finals next year I think he'll stay. But he isn't 100% committed, which is enough to keep the Giannis door open for 2021. Still believable that it's innocuous, based on his personality, but definitely raises the eyebrows. He's definitely sidestepping opportunities to put the dreamers out of their misery. This is gonna be bonkers right up until the moment he puts pen to paper with someone. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - Hypermav - 09-18-2020 I try to imagine if that were Luka saying the same thing. I wouldn't feel so great about it. I guess I would try and focus on the last part but I would want him to say something more like Dirk did. I'm spoiled and he spoiled us. I mean, fighting for it doesn't mean they will be, doesn't even mean they'll make it to the Finals next year. If they do something to try to make the team better in Giannis eyes, that to me is fighting for it. In other words, I think he's staying based on that answer right now. It all could change in a year, but to me, right now...he's gonna be in Milwaukee. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - DanSchwartzgan - 09-20-2020 Bobby Marks has a piece up listing how 11 teams would have to maneuver the cap in order to sign Giannis in 21. He uses a flat cap of $109.1mm as his dollar assumption. Dallas is the third team he writes about after Miami and Toronto. Bottom line, we have to make $15mm in salaries go away to do an outright signing. This assumes we keep our first round pick, but that we don't add any long term money through the MLE or trades. Here is the section of his Insider piece on Dallas: Dallas Mavericks
2020-21 trade considerations: It's unlikely given the health concerns and $130 million still left on the contract, but would the Bucks consider an Antetokounmpo-for-Porzingis swap? After Porzingis and, of course, Doncic, the Dallas roster is filled with serviceable role players. The Mavericks are also restricted from sending out draft picks because New York is owed a 2021 unprotected first and 2023 top-10 protected first via Dallas. The earliest Dallas could trade a first would be 2025.
