I found this image from 7 years ago detailing all NBA players up until that point, so 2017, who sustained a 5th metatarsal fracture and the games they missed:

The average missed game time for this injury was 39.5 games.

Ugh.  Tough break.  Kid shows real promise.

Yes, but that tells us nothing, because were there weeks or months of recovery where no games could be missed? At face value, it would tell us that some players suffered a fractured bone in their foot, and missed ZERO time. Ugh, the idea that they were not hurt at all, and were just fine immediately, is not even possible.

Did any simply retire? Did some return, play a game or three, and get get re-injured over and over (like Roddy B) and finally just fall out of the league (like Roddy B)? Did some get hurt at the end of one season in April, heal in the summer, and then return by the start of the next season in November?

The question to answer is: how many WEEKS (not "games") from "injury date" to "ready to play" date for each of these players?

So of the 5 players who had zero missed games:

Blatche- Injured in the offseason, returned before training camp
Orien Greene- Injured right after the draft, returned before the season.
Nedovic- Injured in the offseason, returned before training camp
Joe Smith- Injured in September, 7 week recovery time and returned for the season opener
Jeremy Tyler- Was a summer league standout that broke his foot in September. Had a partially guaranteed deal and didn't return till January. Which means he missed 30 games to start the season, not 0, and 17 total weeks. Perhaps the original creator of the graph didn't count a 15th man missing games?

For everyone else:

Anderson- Broke in November, returned in January. 11 weeks

Roddy B- Broke in August, returned in February. 28 weeks

Bibby- Broke in October, returned in December. 10 weeks

Kwame- Broke in August, returned in December. 17 weeks.

Glen Big Baby Davis- Broke in January, returned in November. 42 weeks

Ricky Davis* - Broke in July, returned in November. 18 weeks (But might've also bled into his year with MIA. Unclear how long)

Reggie Evans- Broke in November, returned in March. 14 weeks.

Pau Gasol- Broke in August, returned in December. 15 weeks

Dion Glover- Broke twice, in each foot. Total weeks recovery for both- 12 weeks  (5+7)

Lindsey Hunter- No specific dates, or even news articles of his injury. If we assume 40 games, then half a season is about 14 weeks.

Damion James- Broke in December, returned in February. 9 weeks.

Brandon Jennings- Broke in December, returned in January. 5 weeks

Dominque Jones- Broke in February, out for the rest of the season. 9 weeks.

Brook Lopez- Broke twice. Returned the first time in 8 weeks. The 2nd time 16 weeks. Both were essentially season ending.

CJ McCollum- Broke in October, returned in January. 12 weeks. (also broke it that same year in College and was out 10 weeks)

Patty Mills. Broke in July, returned in February. 29 weeks

Nazr Mohammed- Broke twice. First time recovered in 6 weeks and returned in Dec. Broke again in February and was out the rest of the year. Total: 14 weeks.

Travis Outlaw- Broke in November, returned in February. 14 weeks.

Anthony Parker- Missed all but 2 games in the lockout season in 99. Total of 13 weeks.

White Mamba- Broke in October, returned at the end of January. 14 weeks.

Chris Singleton- Broke in September, returned in November. 10 weeks.

Vaughn- Broke in the middle of April before the season ended. Out for the rest of the year. 1 week of missed time* (*not counting him cause of the timing of his break)

Rasheed Wallace- Broke in December, returned for last game of the season before retiring. 18 weeks

Martell Webster- Broke in October, didn't return till the following season. 27 weeks

Terrico White- Broke foot before season started, missed entire rookie year. Cut shortly thereafter. Never played in NBA.

Marcus Williams- Broke in September, returned in December. 11 weeks

The total averaged missed time for this injury in weeks is 16.5. The median is 14. So basically at minimum 3 months, like Shams reported.

A week after a city-sanctioned report cast doubt on the economic benefits of the Philadelphia 76ers’ proposed facility in Center City, the team received a written proposal from the state of New Jersey detailing a transformative arena project in Camden that the team could own and operate, should it choose to relocate to New Jersey.

It is a proposal that the Sixers will look at seriously, a team spokesperson told ROI-NJ.

“We have worked tirelessly for the past five years to build an arena in Philadelphia, and negotiations remain ongoing with city leadership regarding our proposal at Market East,” the spokesperson said. “The reality is, we are running out of time to reach an agreement that will allow the 76ers to open our new home in time for the 2031-32 NBA season. As a result, we must take all potential options seriously, including this one.”

I see the Sixers owners have a better chance to start a civil war than Donald Trump. I applaud every city that has the balls to stand up to these billionaire c*nts. Build your own damn arena or get lost.

Agreed.

For whatever reason most of these owners believe they can have the taxpayers pay for their building while they get all the profits of it. I mean heck, I don't blame them trying to go for it considering what a nice setup that is.

I don't think the 76ers would actually move either. Seems like the city is calling their bluff.

RE: AROUND the NBA: DeRozan Believes SAC will make WCF - SleepingHero - 09-11-2024

Since its the middle of September and there is no news, DeRozan decided to head on ESPN and drop a few sound bytes.

https://streamable.com/b71k4o

Here he is saying he definitely would've won a ring with the Raptors had the Kawhi trade not happened.

https://streamable.com/ypp6c1

Here he is saying the Kings will make the WCF. (To be fair, he is answering a "boldest take of the season question", but who cares its September and I'm bored!)

ESPN is officially the black hole of sports. Made Woj retire. No more Woj bombs.

Shams is the man now. He won't have Woj to compete with for breaking NBA news.

Do we know he was pushed out? That seems like a great second career move.

He apparently left about 20 million on the table from ESPN, and only informed the top brass there of his decision this morning. Definitely seems like Woj left on his own terms but who knows nowadays?

If I was an executive at ESPN and I just lost the biggest news breaker in the industry, I'd be pissed.
