Atlanta fans seem to like their young center but I didn't know if was that small. 6'8ish. Adding a huge guy like Maluach with their other defenders besides Young could be the start of an interesting foundation. Just not sure how high they can get with those picks. Maybe 10ish? Granted Sexton is incredibly efficient, but I'd rather use Hardy for this role rather than spend any assets on these guys. Roster needs balancing for sure. I'm been a big believer in Hardy, but he's so inconsistent. I think he has a role in the NBA and possibly as like a 14-16 ppg scorer off the bench. But starting to lose faith that's with the Mavs. I see a Gafford or P.J. swap for a guy KINDA like Sexton or Simons as sort of balancing things. Still not sure those are the types we need to balance though. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - Ghost of Podkolzin - 06-11-2025 (06-11-2025, 04:45 PM)Nowitzki Way Wrote: Roster needs balancing for sure. But starting to lose faith that's with the Mavs. Balance? Yes. But using either PJ or Gaff for a Sexton-type just seems foolish. IMO, the number one criteria for any guard in is defense. My wet dream is Dyson Daniels, but he's prob out of reach. Someone in that mode is exactly what we need, especially when Kyrie returns. A 3pt% of 38.6 with over 3 attempts in only 15 minutes is great for a 3rd year player. Scoring and shooting have not been his problems; it's his missing defensive assignments, etc. If given Sexton's level of minutes, I think you'd see a very similar player. Compare him to Sexton's 3rd year and you'll see this. If given the same opportunity as Sexton and Simons, you'll see similar results. It's just that Kidd has chosen not to "let him loose". RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - Smitty - 06-11-2025 Blaming the coach for not giving a bad player more minutes is not new. I respect you bball opinions but can’t get there with you on this one. Let him loose made me laugh though. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - DallasMaverick - 06-11-2025 (06-11-2025, 08:14 PM)Smitty Wrote: Blaming the coach for not giving a bad player more minutes is not new. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - Smitty - 06-12-2025 (06-11-2025, 10:49 PM)Ghost of Podkolzin Wrote: Thanks, ditto. Can you better describe what you see as his deficiencies? I can give you a specific and detailed breakdown or I can say he's a bad version of Tim Hardaway Jr. Let me know if that helps or not. When I have time, I can definitely dive deeper. Edit* Hardy is a slightly undersized SG that can't dribble, pass, or play-make but thinks he can. It's a terrible place to be for him. You noted his outside shooting numbers as his lone positive, but even then - most of his numbers come from garbage time against other 'not so good players'. He's the definition of streaky and I'm not saying that as a negative because a lot of shooters are, just pointing it out. He hasn't gotten better at one single thing since his rookie season. If anything, he's worse at just about everything. I was curious if the eye test and numbers agreed and they do. Per 36 (to make it apples to apples) Year 1: 43.8 FG%, 40.4 3P%, 53.3 eFG%, 57.1 TS%, 82.3 FT%, 4.5 TRB, 3.3 AST, 2.3 TOV/11.1 TOV%, 21.4 PTS, PER 14.6 Year 3: 43.5 FG%, 38.6 3P%, 52.7 eFG%, 54.9 TS%, 69.8 FT%, 3.5 TRB, 3.2 AST, 3.3 TOV/15.4 TOV%, 19.7 PTS, PER 10.4 And that's just the offensive side of the ball, where he's supposed to be a plus. Defensively, he's even worse. At 6'4 he's not so small that he should get picked on but on-ball he's one of the worst defenders I've seen on the Mavs, and the crazy thing is, he may be even worse as a team defender. He's either incredibly lazy or doesn't care. Either way, he's shown for 3 years now that he's an inefficient chucker, that turns the ball over too much, and a very very bad defender. Zero improvement to his game and someone that will likely be out of the league once his contract is up, unless he has an epiphany of some sort. Especially the last sentence. DAL gave him the keys during summer league after his rookie season and he showed an inability to run the offense that degraded into just trying to pad individual stats. I know it was early, but I felt like that showed he would never be a dependable starter. Sure, he's shown flashes, but not consistently. I think THJ-lite is the best comparison. (with apologies to THJ) Time to move on. Kind of feel that way about OMax also, although there is a faint chance that the lights may switch on and he becomes a positive contributor off the bench. There's no arguing that. Thank you. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - Ghost of Podkolzin - 06-12-2025 Thoughts? OKC: SGA Dort JDub Giannis FA or Draft MIL: Dame Cason Kuzma Chet Hartenstein IMO, it makes MIL better and makes OKC a dynasty RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - Chicagojk - 06-12-2025 As a former Jaden Hardy club member, I think there is something there. It just won't be in dallas. He really needs to round up his game. Otherwise in two years he will be out of the NBA. I think his value is very low. I have no doubt he would have been moved at the deadline if there was any interest imo. His flashes have been great. It just hasn't happened enough or hide his warts. I have been working up a theory that these young players who played for the Ignite or play one year in college and then play in the G-league that it is not a good developmental stage. The G league is filled with good players, but it just seems like the games don't really mimic NBA games. It feels like you really cut yourself short by not going to college or spending a year in college and then get minutes in the G league. I think it is a good sign that more kids are staying in school (with NIL) than looking to develop in the G league. College has its faults but it is hard to duplicate the stress of conference games, Conference tournaments and NCAA tournaments. It is really hard to get those reps playing in the G league imo. So you think in a couple of months the Mavs went from signing him to an extension to trying to unload him? As fans we need to remember that franchises aren't Ninja chopped and microwaved. I simply think it's impossible for that to happen unless he slept with someone's wife. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - RasheedsBigWhiteSpot - 06-12-2025 Okay, this is a twist on my earlier trade idea. I think I'm on to something by piecing things together based on multiple recent reports: Spurs want Durant Sixers want to move up to #2 (but why? They have Maxey) Suns want a lot of draft capital but pieces like Vassell, Barnes and Keldon Johnson don't exactly get them there, Nets want to trade #19 Mavs DON'T want to trade either PJ or Gafford Spurs get Kevin Durant, Jared McCain and LAC's 2028 #1 via Philly Sixers get Anthony Davis Suns get Paul George, #3, #19 (Nets), #35 Nets get Harrison Barnes and Lakers 2029 1st via Mavs Mavs get Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan and #2 Why the Spurs do it: They of course get Durant, but also get a cheap, young SG in McCain and get a valuable future 1st that fit better than shoehorning in another PG Why the Sixers do it: They get out of PG's contract while getting a dominant player that fits their timeline. Why the Suns do it: Again, what do they want with all they collection of a cap filler when they can get double paid by trading Durant AND eating George. By doing this, they get much better picks. Why the Nets do it: They've already stated they're open to moving #19. Is the Lakers unprotected 2029 1st worth just #19? Uh, no. But it is if they also eat Harrison Barnes' deal which allows a certain team to add the top two picks without becoming a 2nd Apron team. Why the Mavs do it: Okay, I partially spoiled it. The Mavs wouldn't be above the 2nd Apron this season, but by trading AD, it allows them the option and opportunity to go into the 2nd Apron next season and keeping BOTH PJ and Gafford. I really like this variation of my earlier deal. Harper, B. Williams Vassell (Kyrie) PJ, Naji Flagg, Sochan Lively, Gafford RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - loki - 06-12-2025 (06-12-2025, 06:58 PM)Ghost of Podkolzin Wrote: So you think in a couple of months the Mavs went from signing him to an extension to trying to unload him? I think it's possible they look to move someone they were previously happy with given the surprise rookie contract they're about to have on the books. Moving Hardy (if dumped and replaced with a minimum contract) would cut half of the money they're taking on by picking 1st. Moving Martin would cut all of it. #1 Overall Pick 25-26: $13.9M 26-27: $14.5M 27-28: $15.2M (TO) 28-29: $19.2M (TO) #11 Overall Pick 25-26: $5.7M 26-27: $6.0M 27-28: $6.3M (TO) 28-29: $8.3M (TO) RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - SleepingHero - 06-12-2025 (06-12-2025, 04:19 PM)Ghost of Podkolzin Wrote: Thoughts? I think MIL asks for both J-Dub and Chet for Giannis, on top of those picks. I think OKC obliges too, given both of them are going to be up for some huge extensions, and Giannis is a finishing piece by every measure. Although I'd pump the brakes on OKC being a dynasty. Giannis is an offensive engine unto himself. SGA needs the ball 24/7 and he isn't a set up guard in any traditional sense. Much like Dame, I think SGA and Giannis would butt heads. MIL is better off now that they reset and build around Chet and J-Dub, as well as those slew of middle range picks. Honestly a pretty realistic deal all things considered. I think I'm on to something by piecing things together based on multiple recent reports: Not sure why this deal makes sense at all from the Mavs perspective, nor does it answer the original points you posed in the beginning. Sixers don't end up with #2 nor do they get any better given they've sent McCain, George, #3, and a LAC FRP out... and all they get in return is Anthony Davis? This deal raises so many questions just for the 76ers. Does Davis fit next to Embiid? Is Davis any less of an injury risk than George? Is Philly saving any money here given AD is making MORE than George over the next 3 years? If anything, the reasons why Philly wants #2 is because they want to move on from Maxey and think Harper is a better player. They could be correct. What does Maxey+#3 get you along with #2 in return should be the question. The Nets in this deal eat an expiring deal for arguably the 3rd best asset in this trade and all they have to do is give up a mid-tier FRP? I think they say yes faster than the speed of light. Spurs' package for KD makes sense in terms of an asset perspective. Sochan, Vassell, Barnes, and #2 seems like a realistic basis for such a KD deal. But the Mavs side of this.. I mean I don't know man. Let's just assume the Mavs DO make out with the #2 pick for AD. At that point, why are we keeping all of our best win now guys? Should we not just totally and entirely rebuild around Flagg+Harper? Why keep Kyrie? I just think this team, as is, needs to be given a shot. What if AD+Flagg are a crazy good duo? What if Flagg+Kyrie+AD work out and are a great core for at least 3 years? RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - cow - 06-12-2025 (06-12-2025, 10:56 PM)SleepingHero Wrote: Not sure why this deal makes sense at all from the Mavs perspective, nor does it answer the original points you posed in the beginning. Maxey is the future for the 76ers so I don't think moving him is in the cards. The real question is if they attempt to do one more saving throw to win with Embiid before he eventually asks to be traded. The PG13 contract is bad and if you don't love anyone at #3, would you package those two thing together to try and return a piece to make one last run at with Embiid? Could that piece be AD? Who knows? Mavs aren't going to do it anyway so it's just a fun exercise. But if you love someone at #3, I do think that pick is gettable. I'm with you in that I wouldn't resign Kyrie at that point and almost everyone would be available, but I don't need to sell those pieces off right away. If the Spurs are going to go shopping, I don't think it will be for a soon-to-be 37 year-old Kevin Durant. I expect them and OKC to chase Giannis. |
