RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - david75090 - 06-04-2025 (06-04-2025, 05:53 PM)Ghost of Podkolzin Wrote: I keep going back to Dyson Daniels; I'd take him over Herbert Jones. Younger, plays better D, and is precisely what we need in a PG. AD's preferred position is PF. Trade Lively and we have AD the center. Not his preferred spot. It wasn't what got him traded from the Lakers, but he got traded after he made his preferences known. I'm in favor of trading AD for the best package that includes a young stud PG, so that he can play his preferred position on another team. Not familiar with Dyson Daniels, but don't think I'd trade Lively until Nico's replacement decides what he wants to do. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - F Gump - 06-04-2025 (06-04-2025, 05:53 PM)Ghost of Podkolzin Wrote: I keep going back to Dyson Daniels; I'd take him over Herbert Jones. Younger, plays better D, and is precisely what we need in a PG. I have questions and tweaks to the idea, but if Lively is outgoing, Daniels is way more the type of return I would have to see. Thank you. Wondering ... 1 Is Daniels really a PG who can run an offense and get the ball up the floor? If so, I'm very interested. If not, not so much. 2 Would ATL be open to trading him, and do they really need a C more than they need Daniels? If so, I'm very interested. If not, this won't get off the ground. But I'm still quite hesitant. IMO Lively's ceiling is really high. (That's tempered a bit for me because of his tendency to get hurt easily and often.) Tweak issues ... DLive/OMax doesn't quite get there for me, because it will ADD to Mavs payroll due to the 2-for-1, when the Mavs need to be going the other way capwise. The cap issue has to be addressed. And including OMax, his outgoing salary doesn't really help enough to matter (his salary is barely more than the minimum salary you will use to refill his roster spot). However, if you increase the salary outgoing alongside Lively, then it makes way more sense and becomes much more enticing to me. What would I want to see? I probably couldn't say no to Lively/Martin/Hardy/Powell for Daniels/13/22. (And if they would only offer 0 or 1 of the picks, or preferably a future 1st rather than a current one, I might still pull the trigger.) RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - Ghost of Podkolzin - 06-04-2025 (06-04-2025, 09:22 PM)F Gump Wrote: I have questions and tweaks to the idea, but if Lively is outgoing, Daniels is way more the type of return I would have to see. Thank you. Excellent comment, as ususal. IMO, yes, Dyson is a full blown PG with distribution elite enough for championship roster. Starting him as the PG and POA defender with Christie, Flagg, PJ, and AD would be insane. The best defensive starting 5 in the league. I was wrong about DLive at the draft, but I've unfortunately been right about him on the Mavs. He played only 36 games last year. I love everything about him, but his durability. Dyson was a 76 game starter, first team defensive, and most improved player... awards DLive is not even eligible for. ATL has their PG in Trae, wings galore in JJ, Risacher, and Levert. Okongwu is more of a PF than C. This trade makes both teams better. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - FireNicoHarrison - 06-05-2025 I don't think Atlanta would trade Daniels for D-Liv unfortunately for us. I like a lot D-Liv a lot but he is another 40games season away to be a big problem for us. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - Smitty - 06-05-2025 Atlanta hangs up the phone immediately. It's a non-starter. I think it's almost done and it's ok because we don't have any championshis window in last KD years. He'd only be a big problem if they signed him to a big extension. If he can't stay on the court this season then he's an expiring contract next season that could be moved or you could just run out the contract. It would be a massive disappointment, obviously, but I don't see how it becomes a big problem unless it's self inflicted. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - Winter - 06-05-2025 Sometimes I think we over-react on these injuries. Just because a player has a couple of injuries, doesn't automatically place him in some "injury-prone" category. Bad luck happens. Exum hurt his wrist and broke his finger in practice. Kyrie has an injury a lot of players have. Marshall missed a bunch of games because of a weird sickness. AD has had a bunch of 70-game seasons, and the last one was two years ago - but we call him "street clothes" On the other hand, do we think Chris Paul is an iron man for playing 82 games? This is the first time Chris Paul has played 82 games in over a decade. If Chris Paul had missed the typical number of games most 39-year olds miss in a season, we probably wouldn't even discuss him as an incoming option. I do think there are very specific issues for big men playing in the paint. I also think certain body types (Porzingas) don't lend themselves to a physical game. And there are things like tendenitis that you have to monitor. But I really don't look at Lively's body and think "injury prone." I think the first couple of years in the NBA require some very specific conditioning, and he's no exception to that. Just my opinion. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - michaeltex - 06-05-2025 I hope I don't get flamed for this, but here goes... I enjoy the trade speculation discussions as much as anyone. And, like many others here, I also try to think the unthinkable when considering ways to improve the team. Plus I'm on board with sending Nico where ever for nothing more than a bag of magic beans. So, my point is that I'm pretty intrigued by the "play big" philosophy and would not trade any of the top 10 without something really solid coming back. OKC is doing it. SAS is doing it. CLE is doing it. DAL matched up well with those teams when everyone was healthy, even when Luka was injured. I agree with Winter's comment about Lively needing conditioning, but he's just turned 21 and appears to have the mindset needed for NBA success. We were all delighted to get him a few years ago, since there was such a hole at PF/C at the time. I am nowhere near ready to just send him away for scraps, which is likely all you'll get at his current salary level. AD is still a phenomenal talent that causes matchup problems for every team. If he want's to be a PF, fine, but make him play like a PF and not try to be a SF at times. He makes some amazing moves to score, but, IMO, he ends up on the floor way too often for his size and fragility. My biggest issue is the hole he puts in salary cap calculations. Gaff may or may not be a starting quality center. But he is very effective against all but the biggest 5s in the league. Playing big with AD, PJ, Naji and Flagg will get him enough offside help to be more effective. Lord knows the dunks and the screams are team motivators. He's going to want to get paid and I think he should definitely get a bump. If you squinted, Jones seemed like he brought similar skills during his short time with DAL last season. If they can sign him then Gaff might be worth trading at the TDL or next summer, but even then it would be painful. PJW is a true swiss army knife player. He defends well against bigger and smaller players. His scoring is a little streaky, but a more stable rotation should help that. In many ways, he and Naji are the spirit of toughness for this team and PJ kept answering the bell despite a bunch of nagging injuries. You'll miss him if you send him away. I have high hopes for Flagg, as most of us do. He's really young and still developing physically, but I'm optimistic he'll be a star sooner than later. I'm hoping he can play SG and bring his athleticism and creativity to enhance the offense while providing a solid switchable defender. In my dreams, he's Luka-lite, but I don't want to jinx his success with my fantasy. Naji is the team enforcer and brings a reliable floater game that works well when defenses collapse on the bigger team mates. He's an unsung hero for last year's team. OMax has the size and the body, but I'm not sure he has the ability to understand how to be successful in NBA. He's in the panic button category. I agree that PG is a need. But I'm going to say that DAL needs ball handling and offensive initiation with reasonable POA defense and doesn't need to break down this team to try and find a "star" for that position. BTW, we talk about Kyrie as a PG, but, IMO, he plays more like a 2 so his return doesn't necessarily solve the offensive initiation issue. The NBA road of history is littered with with top talents never getting out of the injury bug. I think this board WAY overvalues DLive. After 2 seasons averaging... 45.5 Games Played 35.5 Games Started 23.4 Minutes a Game 8.8 Points 7.1 Rebounds 1.5 Blocks 0 3pt Attempts This said, I'm really convinced of Dyson being our best fit at PG. What would it take, if not DLive, enough for ATL? RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - SleepingHero - 06-05-2025 @TheDunkCentral People in Kevin Durant’s camp are eyeing San Antonio as a landing spot, per @Gambo987 RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - Ghost of Podkolzin - 06-05-2025 DLive/Christie for Daniels/Bufkin works. Trae, Krajci Christie, Mann Johnson, Risacher Okongwu, Niang DLive, Gueye Daniels, Exum Kyrie, Klay Flagg, Martin PJ, Naji AD, Gafford RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - Winter - 06-05-2025 (06-05-2025, 12:48 PM)Ghost of Podkolzin Wrote: History disagrees with you. Huh, the dude has missed 72 games (46%) his first two seasons? It's not my opinion that he's injury prone; it is a fact. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - FireNicoHarrison - 06-05-2025 And Exum is the icon of injury prone. Durant is very old and will likely start to decline soon. Far from even Fox timeline, who is 29, let alone Wemby. I also don't think he makes SA an instant contender, even though the #2 pick could help. They would have to give up at least one good young player. Either a combination of Barnes/Keldon/Sochan or Vassel/Keldon or Barnes. Durant value will only decline in time. I would be way more patient, if I am SA (the only exception would be Giannis, if available and wants to resign). Basically keep the current roster other than perhaps play around the edges, add the #2 pick and play the season with the goal to make the playoffs. See what you have and go for the big fish in 2026.
