Interesting concept. So, is Kyrie Jet Terry? Klay is Peja? PJ is Marion? The bigs are kind of self-evident. I might have said we have too many wings between Christie, Naji and Martin (Butler, Stevenson and Brewer), but after this season, I’ll never say that again (plus, Kyrie and Thompson are going to miss games). The question then becomes who is Kidd and how do we get him? I had thought Kidd had Exum in mind, but his inability to stay healthy may have killed that. Do they still value Exum (at least as a piece of the answer), or do they want to move on? Is there anyone in the 10-15 draft spot range who could help? Someone in Europe? I do see them perhaps minimizing their dependence on the PG by forcing an opponent to contend with a huge frontcourt, so all they need is a guy who can reliably get the ball up court, play strong D, pass the ball to feed others, and hit a shot here and there. Makes me wonder if they'd do something like that by committee (and use lesser guys). Is Williams truly ready for a bigger role? To me a MAJOR part of their process has to be them figuring out roster space and room under Apron 2, and perhaps as bodies are moved there is a PG that gets added. Right now (including their pick), they have 13 returning players whose contracts are guaranteed, plus 5 more they can potentially bring back (Exum, Dinwiddie, Williams, Edwards, Jones), but that adds up to 17 for a 15-man roster. Something has to happen. I've had this feeling ever since the Lonzo extension that he would end up here. He makes just under Powell + Hardy (so no hard cap trigger). It also opens up a roster spot and a position of need for Jones to potentially take the Powell (Mahimni) spot on the roster (has he really matured or are we just desperate?). One thing about Ball is he fits the seeming requirement of having a significant injury history. Not really the same type of player but try to convince CP3 to not retire, take a huge discount and lead the team until Kyrie comes back? His injury history would fit right in with AD and DLive. Would he do it? No idea. He wants a ring and there are better places to go to try to get one, but he probably wouldn't be as integral of a part of other options. Probably doesn't fit the architect we are looking for Tyus Jones? Probably similar to what we have and is a backup Anthony Black? REally young and have not seen him but he would intrigue me. Would take our first probably. Not sure if he is ready for that role though Jordan Poole? Probably not the fit we are looking for Jordan Clarkson? Probably not the role we would be looking for Collin Sexton? Will require a good package being sent to Utah. Do we really want a small guard? Malcolm Brogdon? Always been a fan, but he is older now. Could be a decent stop gap. Not sure how much time he would get over the current teammates though. I will need to think more. Ideally this player is a bigger player who can play with Kyrie and also lead the team when Kyrie is out. I am not sure this place could handle him. He shoots 'em up faster than Tim Hardaway. He is the chuckers, chucker, I like the Brogdon thought for running an offense, he is not much on slashing, though. Jrue would be the best on your list. I feel like the league was full with competant guards. It seems like that trend has changed the last few years. Now it is all wings. Some can run an offense but they are typically pretty expensive. The issue with jrue besides him taking a step back this year is the Celtics will not want salary back and it will take 2-3 of our players to make it work. Tough to find a three party trade while keeping Dallas' depth. Not exactly , i don't think a team can win it all playing that kind of basketball without one of Luka or prime Harden... For example Jalen Brunson is not enough for me. I agree with you, we have to change the game plan. With "floor general" i mean a PG with high IQ, great ballhandling and who can set up plays. A pass first guy. Obviously he also MUST be a good defender and a good 3 points shooter. And mostly a leader. We need a true leader on the court after Luka trade. Offense-wise, he seems pretty Kidd-esque to me. |
