No doubt in my mind that Oladipo is getable. Totally agree. As we've all discussed so often, the issue there for many of us is: DO. NOT. WANT. Not every one, but quite a few, maybe. I'm agreeing with you. The problem is that Dallas is a team who feels like they're contending. I think people who think they're trying to trade him are crazy. In the right deal, sure. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16?) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - SleepingHero - 11-13-2020 Oladipo isn't the scorer that Lavine is. And he might not even be half the player he once was. BUT (and its a big but), if he can return to anything like he was, Dipo is arguably the better option and one that would put us closer to true contention. Dipo at his best was an athletic slasher who is one of the best wing defenders in the league. He's also ELITE as a PnR ball handler. So not only is he a secondary creator we want, but he's the defender we want too. If IND gifts him for pennies on the dollar its probably the better route. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16?) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - KillerLeft - 11-13-2020 I would MUCH rather have Hardaway this year on his expiring deal than Oladipo on his, for example. I legitimately believe Hardaway is a better basketball player. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16?) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - ItsGoTime - 11-13-2020 (11-13-2020, 06:45 PM)StepBackJay Wrote: Oladipo on the other hand I think is gettable, particularly if THJ is able to be packaged with 18.While IND wants players and not picks, I really think a Kleber/Sabonis pairing would be really good for them. Man, THJ and Kleber is $875k off from a match. Anyway, getting Kleber allows them to make the Turner for Hayward trade without much trepidation. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16?) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - Scott41theMavs - 11-13-2020 (11-13-2020, 06:46 PM)ItsGoTime Wrote:(11-13-2020, 06:45 PM)StepBackJay Wrote: The thing lost in all this LaVine buzz here is that I don't know that the Mavs have anything the Bulls want.I remember a report saying Ind doesn't really want picks though, they want players. Done - Dipo for Dwight and Delon it is!!!!!11!!!1!1!! SBJ, you're killing me with all of these trades combining THJ and a 2020 draft pick. If I see it one more time, I may have to put you good-naturedly on ignore until after the draft, which makes the board really hard to read. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16?) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - cjeter24 - 11-13-2020 As for as THJ opting in or not... Does it really even matter unless you need him as an asset in the deal? Mavs are right at the cap... So no THJ? We take that salary back straight into our cap space. We have Wright to use in a deal and can take about 27 mill back. Also Justin Jackson for another 5. Not only that but I think you guys are over complicating it. There's a simple conversation to be had. "THJ are you opting in or out? We have a trade offer for you." THJ isn't going to a bad team in any trade. It doesn't make sense for those teams. Nor do I think he is opting out and risking taking less money to choose his team. It'd almost assuredly be a 3 team trade. If it isn't... THJ won't be viewed as an asset and he can opt out away. It is not clear when deadline for THJ decision is, it can be before draft 2. In any case, THJ can decide to opt in before draft So, there is nothing wrong with this ideas as long as you assume, THJ is willing to play ball or NBA helps with an early date RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16?) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - Scott41theMavs - 11-13-2020 (11-13-2020, 06:51 PM)KillerLeft Wrote:(11-13-2020, 06:49 PM)cjeter24 Wrote: Isn't that like every contending team this year tho? I just don't see him as the long-term solution. If you're just going to tread water (i.e. internal development or bust) this year, he's fine, but the combo of inadequate shot creation/playmaking and poor defense make him a guy who should not be starting on this team unless Luka becomes a very good defender (he's surprised us in so many other ways...). I'm fine with Lavine in THJ's place in spite of the lousy defense (he makes THJ look like the Glove) because he's so good at creating that the ESPN site considers him a point guard, and it's probably deserved. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16?) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - cjeter24 - 11-13-2020 Another thing on THJ option if I'm reading CBAFAQ question 60 right... The Mavs and THJ can agree to remove the option which takes any sort of deadlines and throws them out. The option is just gone on his contract. Unless he is undecided on opting out or he is opting out, this seems like a much smaller issue than it actually is. The thing is, Monday is the date when movement is allowed again. If THJ and similar players (like our beloved OPJ) *may* exercise their player options on Monday but can wait until Thursday, guess what they're going to do to protect themselves. Furthermore, let's say THJ handshakes on Tuesday not to exercise his option to be included in a deal Wednesday, but then changes his mind Thursday. Then the Mavs would be effed like Steve Martin in Planes, Trains and Automobiles. I'm thumbs-up on a trade for Dipo as long as five particular Mavs' assets are not included - DFS, Seth, Maxi, THJ, and 18. There's no serious market for Dipo right now. I'm not giving a major positive asset for him. And the whole point of taking a flyer on him is double big space coming off in THJ and Dipo. Wright and 31? Done. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16?) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - loki - 11-13-2020 What's the consensus on Vanvleet? Worth forgoing 2021 cap space for? It's not hard to imagine him being a solid 3rd option, but the Mavs could also get stuck with an undersized chucker on a huge contract if he regresses. He does bring a lot to the table that Dallas needs. Tough perimeter defender against guards, good volume shooter and secondary playmaker, and he's only 26. I haven't seen him play a lot, but at a glance he looks like the type of guy that the MBT would pursue. Almost a Kemba-like addition except not quite the scorer (especially from midrange) but a much better defender. Rumor is Toronto wants to keep his new deal at around $20M a year. It wouldn't surprise me to see the Knicks offer up to $25M. At that point Dallas could step in and offer Hardaway in a sign and trade. Something like $90-$100M total over 4 years. So why is LAL involved to grab the value and an additional second? I won't speculate what Lavine would cost, but this just doesn't make sense at all. And the MBT would look elsewhere, if this is the price. |
