I think I recall seeing something about how Brown had to come back to make the trade legal (but I'm not a cap expert and could be remembering wrongly). RE: 2021 FREE AGENCY: Mavs might be done until later in the off-season - F Gump - 08-06-2021 1 In the J-Rich trade, the Mavs didn't really want Brown (or any salary) in return. But certain cap rules made some outgoing salary necessary. BOS had players with bigger salary they wanted to insert instead (more for salary-moving reasons, than talent), but Brown's was the smallest. I'm not sure why anyone would quibble with that outcome. 2 If they do sign Dragic, they may not waive Brown right away (in case a trade arises needing small filler). But if they don't see value in him at the moment, it's not likely to change. He shouldn't be asked to be in Summer League as a Mav, or training camp either (due to injury risk and the financial consequences). And they don't really need so many centers. We have a hole at the 4. His QO with the Bulls is just a hair over 9M. If he's waited this long he most definitely isn't taking a paycut from that. I know he said to that Finnish reporter that his time in CHI is done, but if his only choices are 5-6M for 3 years or 1 year 9M "prove it deal" I'm more confident that he'll choose the latter than the former. That's why I think a 10M a year deal essentially for 2 years might just be enough to convince him to sign. At how many years and at what price point? My contention was NEVER that the Mavs had no interest in Lowry....my contention was that their interest at the 3 yrs/$90+M range was BS. Or was it someone like Portis, or Batum? 2 A deal with the 3rd year unguaranteed is indeed legal, but is not a benefit for LM. If he signs a 3 year deal, he is committing for 3 years. 3 A trade for him would be tricky because he's base year for salary match. It feels like the core of a trade for him would be Maxi or Powell for LM, and then some salary CHI doesn't want (fitting into the TPE) for some other Mav player. But the biggest issue would be getting to the value that would attract CHI to do the deal, and that would also appeal to the Mavs. RE: 2021 FREE AGENCY: Markkannen wants out of CHI - KillerLeft - 08-06-2021 (08-06-2021, 12:46 PM)F Gump Wrote: 1 Is LM the unsuccessful snt that Fischer has been teasing to tell about? He previously said 3/$90M in a pre-free-agency Greenroom, as far as the Mavs’ offer he had heard. Believe what you want on reality. I do think that contract was being thrown out there by Bartelstein to get MIAMI to offer close to it. Lowry was probably always leaning Miami, but the agent wanted that guaranteed money driven up. RE: 2021 FREE AGENCY: Mavs might be done until later in the off-season - cow - 08-06-2021 Maxi for LM is a no go. WCS is WAY too inconsistent to rely on and even when he is on his game, that doesn't give you a defensive rotation of any worth. I guess I was under the impression that it was likely they would be either keep Batum or Jackson, not both. Both fit in really well there and outplayed their salaries by a good margin. Now they are back on still solid value if they continue their good play. I also think they picked up three interesting draft picks as well. At least two of them are not ready for NBA minutes yet, but I liked the gambles. Both Johnson and Boston have the athletic traits to figures things out. Or was it someone like Portis, or Batum? Isn’t BYC satisfied if space is used? If they use part of the R-MLE for Sterling and use the $5.38mm in space with another outgoing contract or two to get LM, doesn’t BYC go away? Not advocating this, but as you point out, Chicago has to be satisfied and Dallas has to get to a number LM wants for multi-years…especially if we are giving up items of value. Maxi plus space gets LM to $14mm. Is Maxi enough (he’s certainly a better fit in Chicago). Is $14mm enough? Maxi fits well here also. How about Powell plus Green plus room? That get’s LM to just north of $19mm. I probably do that…especially with Sterling taking minutes from Green. |
