RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - JamesConway912 - 05-26-2025 (05-26-2025, 01:39 AM)DL2RimRocker Wrote: Honestly, I'm not concerned about Davis's minutes because he'll get plenty of rest throughout the season by sitting out half the games for most likely a half dozen or so different reasons. This. I think there is a significant chance that the wheels come off quickly (Christmas) anyways and that we‘ll see Dumont give in to the pressure and finally fire Harrison once the results continue to be what they were after the Kyrie-injury (which I expect). Without Kyrie AND Luka you are looking at a team with potentially the worst guard play in the entire league. After years of having Luka + Kyrie/Brunson as a stable elite presence at the ballhandling spot the floor of this team has decreased drastically. The roster may be loaded at plenty of other positions but that barely matters if you constantly struggle to run basic plays. I agree...the PG position is going to be a big problem and after listening to Legler, it sounds like Kyrie's expected return time is extremely optimistic, almost to a point of being unrealistic. Gaff has to be moved for an experienced playmaking PG, and BWill will need to take his game to another level for us to be anywhere near competitive in the west. Kyrie's and AD's injuries at their ages, along with the luck of winning the Flagg sweepstakes, suggests to me that Nico should make a 180 degree turn on the direction this team heads moving forward. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - Chicagojk - 05-26-2025 The more I think about it, the more I am leaning towards an Anfernee Simons path. I just can't find a three team trade that would incentivise the Blazers and ideally keeping Gaff or PJ away from LAL. I think his shooting would really space the floor. Watching his highlights he shot a lot off dribble with Portland. HOpefully that would decrease going to a more veteran team and his percentages would jump a little. I could also see him as a part of a three man rotation in the backcourt moving forward. Really, there are multiple options here that are a little hard to target - simply because we don't know what the other teams are looking for. It may make more sense for a Simons trade, but that trade is largely hidden from us. And that may be true elsewhere. A multiple-team switcheroo? a draft night trade? Someone unexpected knocks on our door? For the most part, grabbing someone like Ball is mostly of interest to us because it's conspicuous. But the Mavericks were caught off guard with the lottery win, and that really does change timelines, contracts, and player positions in an unexpected way. I really have no idea what will happen. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - ThisIStheYear - 05-26-2025 It wouldn’t be the worst thing for the Mavs to trade AD for a younger player and picks (including a mid first rounder this year), deal Gaff and PJ if you can get at least a first (or maybe someone like Dalton) for each and shed future salary, let Kyrie walk, give Flagg an intro year where he’s not overplayed and maybe even shut him down at the 3/4 mark of the season. You definitely have to dump Klay as well (what a disaster of a signing that turned out to be, talk about an amateur mistake). It would be a quick bottom out to take advantage of the last pick you control to build the next generation of the team. You’d come out of it with plenty of future ammo and salary flexibility to find a second star and the requisite supporting pieces. You’d start the rebuild with Flagg, DLive, Max, and whatever young player AD returns, and maybe a couple of other young assets from the trades, so you should go into the 2026-27 season, after another high draft pick and a free agent acquisition with a really good young roster. The secret is just to be bad next year and get rid of Nico. The team could be set for a decade and might even be able to challenge OKC, who unfortunately look like NBA champs for as far as the eye can see. Gaff for Vincent and Knecht is the way to start the dominos falling. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - Smitty - 05-26-2025 Marc Stein says Dallas is going to at least “explore” whether or not it could acquire Jrue Holiday; a more reasonable target that Dallas has maintained interest in is Lonzo Ball. Another name to monitor for the Mavs is Chris Paul @TheSteinLine RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - david75090 - 05-26-2025 From the Bulls, I'd be much more interested in a sign and trade for Giddey. If the interest in both Ball and Jrue is true (even if exploratory), that's a very wide salary margin between those two. The only thing I can make of that is that the Mavs are willing to make trades and possibly use draft picks to get their PG for next season. I swear, if Nico gives up anything of significance for them -- Jrue has negative value -- I'm f---in' DONE. I suspect he's just hoping for a desperation move from Boston - who are under a lot of pressure to unload contracts. It sounds unlikely really. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - Chicagojk - 05-26-2025 I can't get behind Jrue. Ties us way to much to older players. His is about to turn 35 next month. I think it would need to be a three team trade. Maybe to a team with cap space? Boston gets a lesser player, third team gets PJ/Gaff and a Boston pick, and Dallas get Jrue. Just seems like there is not a fit. That salary just sticks out like a sore thumb to me. I think the move just can't be Lonzo. I don't think with his injury history you can count on him as a starter. Maybe as a 20-25 bench role is his best fit. Lonzo off the bench and Paul as a starter? If you add Brandon Williams is that rotation enough to survive 50-60 games? That is tough ask. I just think one of PJ or Gafford is moved this summer. Not sure which yet. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - loki - 05-26-2025 (05-26-2025, 06:35 PM)Chicagojk Wrote: I can't get behind Jrue. I'd offer Gafford to Boston and send Martin+Hardy+Omax to the 3rd team (Brooklyn or a team with a trade exception). Make Boston pay 2nds to the 3rd team if needed and make them send an unprotected swap in 2030 or 2031 to Dallas. If they want PJ, a 1st, or even Klay, I'd pass and they can find another team to bail them out. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - ThisIStheYear - 05-26-2025 Jru would be another amateur GM move, and an albatross on Flagg’s career, a little like the Klay acquisition. If not for that stupefying move, the Mavs would have given more minutes to the far superior and younger Grimes this season and would be in much better shape going forward. Hard pass on Jru. That’s a decision that reeks of desperation. Getting under the aprons is priority one for this team. Nico is basically the owner in your fantasy football league who takes the older, name players, spends the run up to the season crowing about his hall of fame lineup, and is mystified because they go 5-9. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - myconsumerclub - 05-26-2025 Klay Hardy and Martin passes the trade checker I used to clear enough salary to snag Jrue Holiday. Your giving away the teams 3 point assasin but its oldguy number 3 of 3 and sending out 2 unwanted prospects that they may get to produce. That leaves roster spots to fill with trades for picks. Omax plus a 2nd may get you a late first early second round pick to grab a useful PG Proctor is predicted to go late. Proctor and Uzan are 2 PG's looking to be there late in the 2nd and both make 3's at a great rate. Both are fast and agile and big for PG's Proctor is 6'5.5 and Uzan is 6'4.5 these guys should go later in the draft so get us 2 picks somehow someway and you add in 2 future PG talents with more size than most PG's enjoy and they both can hits a 3 around 40%. Why sign Irving? He obviously isn’t “defense wins championships”. "Defense wins championships” is the mantra of Nico the Idiot. You are proposing the Mavs follow that idea? I wouldn't. Consider the source. Defense doesn't win crap when you have an anemic offense. The Mavs have been in desperate need of an offense creator without him, and no way to get one. Kyrie (when healthy) has always been, and should continue to be, a MAJOR force in creating offense. Re-signing Kyrie is the obvious answer to that #1 need for the Mavs, and it's a smart bet that it will happen. He wants to be be here, is flexible on salary demands, and has been a major contributor here. I'd applaud that outcome, if done using the parameters already talked about. 1 Martin-Hardy-Powell for Ball, and also adds cap flexibility and roster room. 2 Sign Paul for minimum preferably (or TxpMLE). Alternate would be Tyus Jones. 3 Sign Kai Jones for minimum salary to fill the vacated 3rd C slot. Alternate Moses Moody? The end result of that is 14 players, and about 1.5M below A2 (that's with an unchanged Kyrie salary). RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - david75090 - 05-26-2025 Ball has played 35 out of 82 games in each of the last two seasons. The Mavs want a starting PG to tide them over until a re-signed Kyrie gets back in the later part of next year. That's the position that needs to be filled. Personally, I'd be looking to get someone who might, possibly, fill that spot. |
