RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - F Gump - 07-16-2025 (07-16-2025, 03:02 PM)omahen Wrote: I think main cog for GSW is Kuminga. They have 170 mil of salary for current 9 players. If they trade Kuminga without salary back, they could have access to their full MLE. Yep, GS wants a way to get value for Kuminga, but he doesnt fit their roster and taking back a trade match is problematic to their other preferences. They're kinda stuck. No one has cap room to offer a pick and no salary trade. He's not in very high demand at the salary he wants. What do they do? RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - RoyTarpleysGhost - 07-16-2025 "My expectation is that one way or another, the Warriors are going to end up with both [Al] Horford and [De'Anthony] Melton on their roster," Marc Stein said Tuesday on 95.7 The Game's "Willard & Dibs." RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - DanSchwartzgan - 07-16-2025 (07-16-2025, 04:07 PM)F Gump Wrote: Yep, GS wants a way to get value for Kuminga, but he doesnt fit their roster and taking back a trade match is problematic to their other preferences. Is there a number at which Kuminga goes to Chicago, PJ goes to GSW and Coby White comes to Dallas. Something like $20mm keeps the Chicago part of this within the $7.5mm rule. Dallas drops about $1.2mm further below the second apron. GSW just needs too many bodies to reserve the Full MLE while taking back someone like PJ. I've seen speculation that Horford would take the smaller MLE and Melton would take a minimum. So, that part works. I could easily see PJ being someone the Warriors would be interested in. Last news I saw was they are willing to resign him with a promise that they trade him until TDL. I guess it is better for them than taking back some trash salary in a SnT available now. However, at one point those FA (Horford, Melton,...) might get tired of waiting and just sign with someone else. If any of them would be willing to sign for vet min, this wouldn't be stopping GSW to sign them now. There was also a report that several of this better remaining FAs are looking for more than vet min. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - SleepingHero - 07-16-2025 (07-16-2025, 04:38 PM)DanSchwartzgan Wrote: Is there a number at which Kuminga goes to Chicago, PJ goes to GSW and Coby White comes to Dallas. Something like $20mm keeps the Chicago part of this within the $7.5mm rule. Dallas drops about $1.2mm further below the second apron. I think that'd be a horrific trade for the Mavs, given that PJ has proven to already affect winning more than White. Further, White is about to be an UFA and more than likely seeking an annual salary worth way higher than a probable PJ extension will be. Finally, after the trade, the Mavs have White, DLo, and Kyrie on the roster. Super solid backcourt for sure, but Kyrie isn't sacrificing minutes and I don't see White being happy having to fight for minutes in a contract year. White has always been a non-starter for me since DLo was signed. We have our starting guard for next season until Kyrie comes back. No reason to make permanent changes for a temporary solution. Now, since the Bulls are getting Kuminga in this deal, perhaps the Warriors are more interested in depth than 1 talent. Kuminga was a bench player for them and looking at their roster, the amount of available NBA talent is...miniscule to say the least. Hardy+Christie+OMax makes way more sense for the Warriors than just PJ. That deal solves the Mavs roster issue and also adds a relatively capable guard. It also keeps their own costs low in terms of assets sent since White is going to be a UFA. Not sure what would be stopping him from signing that by now and get done with it. Based on reported interest from Lakers, I would assume Lakers are offering him more than vet min. I could also see Lakers offering a starting role to him (replacing Hachimura in the starting line-up). GSW might also be offering the starting role to him, in front of Moody, Podziemski or Hield. Melton is really interesting. There were very strong (reliable like Stein and similar) rumors at FA start, that there is strong mutual interest between him and Lakers. But that cooled off after some days. Perhaps they were willing to discuss the remaining part of MLE, which was given to Ayton later. Perhaps the Ayton thing materialized and they couldn't get a decent trade for a center, so they decided to go this way. That could indicate that Melton is at least hoping for more than vet min that could remain to GSW after the other moves. GSW also has Payton II - he was paid 9 mil last season. GSW could give him more than vet min, if other moves put them over the first apron (no MLE to use). I doubt Payton could get much more than vet min on the remaining market. So he might also be waiting for Kuminga. The rest of vet min signings they will do likely depend on pieces they will get with other moves and remaining needs they will have. P.S.: Seems to me Chicago wants to keep White. There were rumors of Vucevic being offered in the SnT for Kuminga. GSW could very much use a guy like Vucevic, but they don't look that interested anymore. Or perhaps Kuminga doesn't want to go there, although that would be an exact place where he would be able to take a bunch of shots and prove his value. BKN still has plenty of cap space and they could simply give him an offer in the 20 mil range, that would make GSW a very tough decision to match. I know a lot of people here like Coby, and I get that we need more creation and have too many frontcourt players, but I just can't get over how bad he is on defense. He is a good offensive player but I don't think he is elite. Mixed with his defense that makes him a 6th man on a good team, which would be fine except I think he is going to be looking for more money than PJ is. Hardy+Naji+Omax and you got a deal. I don’t want to give up Christie for a rental. He’s show enough potential to be the future SG for the Mavs. Plus defender and good shooter on decent volume. Can playmake a bit and just turned 22. He may never reach his full potential, but I’m not dealing him for Coby White, who most likely won’t be a Mav for more than a year. I think Naji is more of a fit anyway for the way the Warriors want to play and maybe more of a win-now player from their POV. Of course, I’d rather send Martin than Naji but in the end I’d be fine if a player like Naji is what it took. It’s just hard when a player believes he’s worth more than the market does. No team wants to trade for him, because he’s just a rental at that point, and unlikely to re-up at a number they like. GSW certainly doesn’t want to pay him what he wants. In fact, he might be worth even less to them than he is another team that might have greater needs or use him differently. But at the same time, he’s got some value, and they don’t want to lose him for nothing. How much is his qualifying offer? I'm thinking maybe GS target is a deal where they get a pick, not a player (who brings salary). If your numbers are right on Horford and Melton, maybe GS's target is landing under tax line, not A1. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - omahen - 07-17-2025 From Stein piece that was just published: - BKN not interested in restricted free agents but rather in selling their 24 mil of remaining cap space. They even didn't have substantial conversations with their own restricted free agent Cam Thomas - Sacramento is known to have interest in Kuminga, who sort of hopes to go to Chicago. Phoenix has expressed interest in SnT, but GSW not entusiastic about what they have to offfer. Kuminga is looking for at least 25 mil deal, even if short term. GSW not enthusiastic about this and is also looking for draft compensation in SnT - Giddey and Chicago still far apart (Giddey looking for 30 per, Chicago more in the 20 per range and it seems to be a similar situation between Philly and Grimes - market for restricted guys is tough, as no one has cap space (other than BKN, who is not interested) RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - HoosierDaddyKid - 07-17-2025 (07-16-2025, 05:41 PM)mvossman Wrote: I know a lot of people here like Coby, and I get that we need more creation and have too many frontcourt players, but I just can't get over how bad he is on defense. When was the last time they locked anybody up? J/S. White is at least equal to D'Lo on offense, maybe slightly better IMO, but Kyrie, if he comes back right, is better than both of them without question. I think White has some dawg in him and could be a real nice fit on his next team. The issue is I sort of also view him as a super 6 man. White is looking to get paid soon and I doubt he sees himself as a bench player. With our other contract, I am not sure paying him around 25 million is the smart way to build a team. If he was making Colin Sexton money and was locked up for a few years the story may be different. The Terrance Mann trade is not getting enough attention. I liked Mann. Tough kid and was a nice rotation player with the Clippers. He never made a jump now and makes 15 and 16 the next two years. They traded for Mann and got a late first (and kept all 5 firsts). Add that to the MPJ contract and those are two contracts that won't be easy to get off of...if they plan this. Selling cap room is probably smart. Not sure there is a strong market right now. Maybe for cap next year?? GSW is in a tough spot. They didn't play Kuminga when the Warriors played their best ball. GSW may be up for a sneaky bad season. While Kumiga has potential, I am always leary of players from GSW. Much more so when they don't fit into that system. Should be a system that really helps you out. Grimes is in a tough spot. Played great in Philly. Maybe with the Paul George injury he has a more defined role. With VJ, Maxey and McCain at guards the minutes could get tight. I am sure Grimes what to capitatlize on a contract now rather than wait another year. Plus, there were rumors some teams had questions about his knees. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST - Smitty - 07-17-2025 @TheDunkCentral The Phoenix Suns are the latest team to show interest in Jonathan Kuminga, per @JakeLFischer “Sources say Phoenix, meanwhile, is the latest team to express exploratory interest in a Kuminga sign-and-trade ... challenging as it would be for the Suns to make such a deal happen. Fresh off completing a buyout of Bradley Beal this week, enabling the Suns to waive-and-stretch the hefty contract possessed by the three-time NBA All-Star guard, they have contacted both Kuminga's representation and the Warriors to make their fondness for the bouncy swingman known.” I feel like Kuminga is the next domino that needs to fall in order for FA business to move on. Here's a list of free agents still available. RFA: Jonathan Kuminga Josh Giddey Cam Thomas Quentin Grimes UFA: Damian Lillard Chris Paul Al Horford Russell Westbrook Malcolm Brogdon Precious Achiuwa De’Anthony Melton Gary Payton II Trey Lyles Chris Boucher Cody Martin Ben Simmons Richaun Holmes Josh Okogie Amir Coffey Alec Burks Thomas Bryant Cam Payne Seth Curry Bol Bol Kai Jones |
