RE: Around the NBA 2019-2020 | Clippers choke (hahaha!) - Dahlsim - 09-16-2020 (09-16-2020, 03:11 PM)omahen Wrote:(09-16-2020, 02:58 PM)Dahlsim Wrote: I don't have to claim it. You can claim what would happen, the few times, very few he gets a lot more minutes he showed it. So you speculate and I'll pull clips. Your case is that other coaches played him an average low minutes? That's it? So what? Each of those cases is specific. Boban played behind all star centers like Tim Duncan, Andre Drummond, Joel Embiid. Have you researched and read what those other coaches said about Boban? I'm pretty sure you didn't. Did you read that Popovich loved him, played him more minutes at times even though he was behind the Great Tim Duncan and Boban contrary to your poorly researched remarks actually played well when he did play those minutes. 'I felt like an idiot,' Popovich discusses Boban Marjanovic leaving the Spurs Quote:Popovich discusses how much the Dallas center was special in his time in San Antonio as well as just how great a player he is. No he was not torched, that's why he was signed to a bigger contract which Pop encouraged him to take because he the Spurs wouldn't match that in their situation. Did you read about what Coach Stan Van Gundy ACTUALLY said about Boban, contrary to your poorly researched comments? Stan Van Gundy: I should’ve played Boban more in Detroit, he’s unstoppable Quote:Boban Marjanovic had a great night in Dallas’ win against New Orleans with 15 points and 16 rebounds which was his best performances this season. I guess Stan is a flat earther too. RE: Around the NBA 2019-2020 | Clippers choke (hahaha!) - omahen - 09-16-2020 (09-16-2020, 03:37 PM)Dahlsim Wrote: Did you read about what Coach Stan Van Gundy ACTUALLY said about Boban, contrary to your poorly researched comments? Oh yes, I did. But simple fact remains, SVG didn't play him (more) despite all his praise. He also traded him. Pop didn't want to pay him, yet he is so full of praise. Rivers also didn't play him more and traded him. That bigger contract he got in Detroit was 7 mil per. No other team in the league saw a 20/10 player and offer him 8 per. He would be catch of the year. After contract expired, Mavs snatched him for 3,5 mil per and again no team in the NBA saw 20/10 player to offer him 5 mil per and catch a big one. Seems only you do. So your arguments lean on public words of praise, my lean on actual situation. I love Bobi but you are way overvaluing him. I'm not looking at just "words of praise", I'm looking at his actual production per minute played, at high percentage scoring which the Mavs for instance desperately needed at critical points in the games, and I'm looking at rebounds, something the Mavs don't do particularly well at, and free throws and then I'm comparing that to what NBA Coaches actually said about his game. Its not just words of praise, it matches what we have seen, when he's given a chance. Quote:I wish I would’ve played him more.” Each coach and team is a different situation. Rick Carlisle has some great coaching chops, but even this year he had a big dust up that got the attention of Shaq, Charles, Kenny and that crew when he proclaimed the "Post Up is dead". A coach whose system is built around the idea that the post up is dead is probably not going to maximize the talents of a Boban Marjonovic. That's just common sense. Environment matters. Trey Burke surprised a lot of people already performing better in Dallas than he had in previous stops. His game and timing found an opening and fits the system and strategy of Carlisle perhaps better than any previous stop. Given the current NBA that Bobi might just be stuck not finding that chance to really show his best impact. Which proves just, that he is good in short spurts. It doesn't prove he is good in long ones. And a couple of really excellent games in long runs don't prove that this is substainable. There were instances where his short spurt was very bad and he naturally didn't play more, to make it a bad long run. It is very simple - no one in the league saw more than what he is 3 years ago and no one in the league saw more than what he is last offseason. Sorry, simple fact. Sooo, if he has a really good short run or a really awesome long run that doesn't prove he should get more minutes BUT if he has a poor short run, that proves he should not get more minutes? RE: Around the NBA 2019-2020 | Clippers choke (hahaha!) - ClutchDirk - 09-17-2020 The Philadelphia 76ers reportedly have interest in the Houston Rockets' Daryl Morey and Indiana Pacers' Kevin Pritchard to become their president of basketball operations. Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported the news Thursday and noted the Portland Trail Blazers' Neil Olshey may be interested if the Sixers are offering full control of the front office. Other names that have popped up include former Atlanta Hawks general manager Danny Ferry and the Golden State Warriors' Bob Myers, but neither is a likely hire. Myers in particular "isn't interested in coming to Philadelphia," per Pompey. Hopefully, this doesn't signal that one of the last poorly run teams in the league has decided to get smarter. The ratio used to be like 30/70 (smart GM's to dumb ones). Lately, most teams have gotten smarter. It's great for the NBA product, but makes getting from good to great, like the Mavs are trying to do, exponentially more difficult. Right off the bat, it probably means that @"Kammrath"'s dream of Bogdanovic being available instead of Hield is dead. I think Hield moves this off-season, for sure. Neither the team nor the player are happy atm. RE: Around the NBA 2019-2020 | Clippers choke (hahaha!) - StepBackJay - 09-17-2020 Wondering aloud if we should have kept Harry Barnes and extended him. Mavs basically gave away an asset for nothing and he would actually fit pretty good in this lineup. I don't hate the player, because he's much better than people think, but don't forget these things:

I just wonder in an alternate reality could they have just let Harry decide whether or not he wanted to opt-in in 2019 (maybe no extension) and they either try him out for 1 yr in this new role or they get cap space to sign someone else (which we didn't use anyway). Clearly on a 1 yr deal he would have been better than Jackson. In retrospect knowing that we were going to miss out on big FAs anyway I would have rather had that outcome. Quick analysis: PF: Designated starter and star player Marvin Bagley III Back Up Options: Jabari Parker, 25 years old, $6.5M player option. Led them in RtG and BPM on very limited sample size Nemanja Bjelica, 31 year old, $7.1M non-guaranteed. Solid starter, but age doesn´t fit time line. I think that´s the first decision to make. I doubt they´ll retain both. C: Designated starter Richaun Holmes UFA: Harry Giles and Alex Len. Another case, where it´s hard to see them retain both. They match all offers for Bogdanovic, cause assets are assets. No chance they´ll let him walk. Yogi and Bazemore are out. If I had to make a prediction. Fox/Joseph Hield/Bogdanovic Barnes/Nesmith Bagley III/Bjelica Holmes/Giles Young-ish, but no "new GM cleanhouse"-mode. RE: Around the NBA 2019-2020 | Clippers choke (hahaha!) - Benskix2 - 09-17-2020 I think getting rid of Barnes was done to create a leadership void for Luka to fill. As nice a guy as Barnes seemed to be I think guys get tired of hearing a guy talk who isn't producing on the court. I don't think it's an accident that we had better team chemistry this past year than we did in any year Barnes was on the team. |
