That was my exact understanding. Glad to know someone else connected the dots in the same way.

What fits, salary wise?

Might be a little late to the party on this one but the idea of sending off McGee to the Nets has me intrigued.

It's been reported a bunch that the Nets have been trying to move off of Joe Harris for almost 2 seasons now. He's been severely injured, but when he plays he can still shoot.

I wonder if the Nets would be willing to do a swap of pure shooters on bad contracts and they get their big.

Mills+Harris for Bertans+McGee. Nets get their big man depth and retain shooting (albeit on a slightly longer contract). Mavs turn Bertans contract into an expiring next year and get Mills as their payment.

Might be a bit unrealistic, although neither Mills nor Harris are massive parts of the Nets rotation. This saves the Nets 3.6 mil this year which is enough to lower their tax bill by about 18 million!

Bummer for the Nets.  He was firmly in the MVP conversation after helping lead them back from the brink.  He's shooting a ridiculous 56% from the field, and doesn't play in the post very much.

Brunson is going to make the all star game, huh?

How many players have dropped 40+ on Jrue Holiday? Knicks lost but Brunson was the best player on the floor in a game that featured Giannis. That´s an allstar. Especially in NY.

Of course. He might've gotten in if he was still here, tbh, but in NY??? Forget about it.

Don't see how he realistically makes it in the East.

Starters are Donovan Mitchell and probably Kyrie just based on fan vote.

Then he's competing with Harden, Jaylen Brown, Darius Garland, and Trae Young as his stiffest competition. Then you got guys that can get a legacy vote in Demar DeRozan, Bradley Beal, and Zach Lavine.  Lamelo Ball is also a candidate.

Right there that's 10 guys that all have a case to make it before Brunson, with at least 5 of them being shoo-ins.

Man, that’s a hard call. I don’t think DeRozan, Beal, Lavine, or Ball are likely to knock him out. And Young is shooting 31% from deep this year to JB’s 38%. But I agree that the first 5 you list seem like locks. So I dunno. Tough question.

I mean there are usually 5-6 guards elected in each conference depending on injury. Not saying Brunson CAN'T make it, but he's not having a super standout statistical season that makes him a more attractive name over guys like DeRozan/Lavine/Ball/Beal, and that's usually needed to break through.

The last 2 have injuries so they may be disqualified. Demar and Lavine are doing better than Brunson in almost every statistical category. Add on Brown/Harden/Mitchell/Kyrie and we have 6 right there.

And we can't forget another fringe guy in Dejounte Murray who's having a similar season to Brunson statistically too. Point is there are a lot of good guards in the East, and while Brunson is having a great year, he isn't having a clear cut all-star year imo.

I'm a huge JB fan, but I think you nailed it in saying he will have a hard time squeezing in.

It's a beauty contest. To get in, JB's numbers would have to be super-impressive and better than others, and where the team sits in the standings also tends to matter. But the competition is stiff.

Compare -- JB's team has won 22, and he's at 21p, 7a, 3r.

Irving and Mitchell will likely get voted in, and they also have the credentials. There likely will be 4 more.

Brown - 29w, 27p, 7r, 3a -- he's a lock
Young - 19w, 28p, 10a, 3r  - the elite scoring and history should also make him a lock despite the lousy team
Garland - 26w, 21p, 8a, 3r -- with Mitchell a lock, him being on CLE might work for him or against
Harden - 24w, 22p, 11a, 6r -- the strong stats, elite team, and history likely make him a lock

IF THERE's ROOM FOR ANOTHER:
If Derozan is a guard, he is probably a lock with 26p, 5a, 5r despite the bad team
Haliburton - 23w, 20p, 10a, 4r
Beal - 17w, 23p, 5a, 4r
Lavine -  19w, 23p, 4a, 4r

JB is probably in the same tier as the bottom of that list, which is good player you'd want, but probably on the outside looking in when it comes to all-star selection.

No way he gets in if he was still here because he wouldn't have the same numbers. And his competition in the West would be just as tough. It's his show in NY.

Let's pick this conversation up again after the coaches vote Brunson into the All Star game.

RE: AROUND the NBA: Zion out multiple weeks | Durant out 1 month w/ MCL - Chicagojk - 01-10-2023

I think Jalen and Randle are right on the edge.  But if the Knicks are at around the same place in the standings, one of them will get in.   I would say Jalen but Randle has had a bounce back season as well.
