When Luka is wearing #7 for another team is when those needed changes will happen.

You might be right. I'm nowhere near thinking like that, myself.

I think there are lots of chances to right this ship, it's just that all of them depend on everyone involved looking in the mirror and realizing they need to take a step backwards to clear the way forward. It starts with the TDL. The expiring contracts must be used to a good effect. I, personally, believe Porzingis needs to become someone else's project ASAP. If all of that happens and then the team has a normal off-season for Carlisle to do what he does, we could all feel very differently about this a year from now. Will all of that happen? No idea.

I have been accused recently of being a bit on the negative side of things with my Mavs-glasses, but I'm nowhere remotely close to resigning myself to believing there's no hope that they find their way in the five more years they're guaranteed to have Luka under contract. There's reason to believe they overestimated their position this season, sure, but they haven't doubled down on it...YET. In fact, they carried four rookies, none of whom were Brunson-type instant contributors. That indicates that they're at least considering a more patient approach, and that gives me a little hope.
