If Hornets are attaching a pick the Mavs should be all over it :-) THJ would be an upgrade for Charlotte, Dallas would not lose much. Batum knows how to play.  I would also consider some combination of Lee + something else, if decent assets are attached.

There are few contracts that are worse than Batum's in this league. 

Even with a protected pick, because lets be real that's all the Hornets are sending out with him, its not even close enough to stomach that contract. Mavs would be paying Batum 52 million over the next 2 years. Just yuck.

If the Mavs want to trade for a bloated contract, might as well look at CP3 or Gordon Hayward.  Both of them are 2 former all-stars, and while they are overpaid, they are still high quality players. Especially CP3 who was one of the most efficient guards last year.

Not even close to compare. Paul has three years left. Hayward has 2 years, but is a much better player than Batum. No way Boston will be attaching picks to trade him. The other way around, they will be expecting picks. 

As for Dallas, there is not a huge difference in having Batum or THJ around for two seasons. But a pick, especially from possibly the worst NBA team for next couple of seasons, would be worth gold. Unfortunately, this is exactly why I don't see any sense for Charlotte to move Batum.

Of course, if Charlotte doesn't want to attach nice assets, Mavs should stay away. And most likely everyone else will.

Team USA's failure in the World Cup may have been good for recruiting for the 2020 Olympics. 

Kawhi Leonard and Paul George say that they intend to play in the 2020 Olympics if healthy. Kawhi playing for Pop again could be interesting, and PG is a bit of a surprise knowing his injury history. Anthony Davis has also indicated he in interested in playing for Team USA. They may also have Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Damian Lillard, and James Harden who all expressed interest on media day.
