I don’t think anyone on our team or anyone on this board wants any part of being .500 again this season. Must win game.

Last six games

Lavine 34.5/6/6

Luka 30.0/12.5/10

Bulls stink a few more weeks, then it´s time for Lavine/Duffy to demand a trade. Tell them he won´t re-sign in 2022.

Johnson + Brunson + four unprotected first round picks (incl. two swaps) must be enough.

Not like the Knicks will turn it down, if we offer to simply remove that 2023 top 10 protection.

Doncic/Burke/Terry
Lavine/THJ/Iwundu
Richardson/Green/Bey
WCS/DFS/Powell
Porzingis/Kleber/Boban

To get the 3rd best scorer in the league shooting nearly 50/40/90 at 25 years old. What kind of question is that?

You all have 2011 syndrome. Luka ain´t waiting around 15 years for such a miracle to repeat itself.

LaVine is putting up amazing individual numbers this year. BUT....

1) He is still just barely cracking 20 PER doing so (and has never had a season over 20 PER).

2) He has an incredibly bad -12.3 on/off this year (-15.3 defensively...!) and in his 7 year career has only ONE season with a positive on/off impact.

My take:

Giving up FOUR unprotected 1sts AND two swaps is something I would be hesitant to do period in almost any situation. But doing so for a player who has shown to be mostly an "empty stats" guy, a big defensive negative, and a chronic "loser" (for lack of a better term) just feels absurd IMO.

I'm ready, willing and excited to welcome in a LaVine experiment, if and when such a choice becomes possible.

But not if the price is 4 first round picks.

This is very astute.

You act like things like the organisation, the teammates, the role, the age of a player all don´t matter. It´s all about your number perceptions and no context.

Who is just the 2nd best player Zach Lavine ever played with in seven years?

Is it 40 year old KG, rookie KAT or maybe Rubio, Wiggins, Markkanen, Portis, OPJ?

You can draw your on conclusion how great the teams were, when these are your 2nd options.

Three months ago your advanced stats all told me that Devin Booker was a perennial loser. That was until CP3 put all the pieces in place. We already have CP3 and Ayton, we just need a Booker.

Of course we can also do it the other way around and wait till Luka pulls a Harden on us and joins Lavine in Chicago. That will be awesome. You got a glimpse into our future with the timeout. If this team ain´t competing for titles, Luka won´t be like Dirk. Dirk had the compassion of Jesus, but he was one in a kind.

Btw it was four first round picks (2+2, not 4+2).

Do you see any of our picks being top 20 between 2021 and 2027, if we replace Brunson with Lavine?

In 2027, our big three would still only be 32/32/28 years old, so there is no Brooklyn/Boston age disaster either. So you would basically get Lavine for a 21st and 25th pick.

I also hear ya. Okay you don´t want Lavine for two 1st round picks. Who do you want? And how do you get him here?

Cause you ain´t winning NBA titles with an ALREADY bottom half regular season offense, when the defense in the play-offs will be twice as prepared and good.

Now you can argue that Porzingis will solve all those problems, but I don´t think he can as a creator.

Actually three months ago, Booker would have had 3 of his 5 seasons with positive on/off impact numbers with the last two +3.8 and +6.0. Much different and much better than LaVine.

Ohhh, this makes it MUCH different. So I do not consider swaps to be "1sts" and categorize them differently. 2 1sts vs 4 1sts is HUGE in my mind. I still wouldn't be inclined to chase LaVine for 2 1sts (only 1 for me I think) but it is not nearly as "absurd" to me.

I would take Lavine for Brunson and 2023 and 25 pick straight out. Easy. Luka will still be in Dallas in 2025. Must win.
For series and blood. I was looking at Mavs schedule yesterday and it turns out that we got quite a tough stretch till 2 of February. After that they play in Dallas for about 2 weeks and schedule gets easier. We should be around 7-8 seed by game 22 with 50-50 win percent. Let´s say 13-9 or 12-10. After that we better light the league on fire. Anything more than that and i would be very happy.

I think 2 firsts are the absolute minimum to get in the conversation for a guy like Lavine. Near 30ppg scorer on damn good efficiency that's also young? Got to pay to play.

I'd be happy giving up 2 (what are supposed to be very late) firsts for a guy like that no problem. Hell I'd even be okay with 3 as long as we're not giving up Richardson/DFS/Kleber/etc.

Good lord. No THJ, too. Boban will have to play a lot of SG tonight. Big Grin
