What is a good # for resigning Brunson that can be counted as a win win? Maybe if Brunson bets on himself, he could have a bigger payday a year from now. And maybe with a team without a top 5 player playing his position.
But if the Mavs decide to keep him, I think extending him is the best bet right? Would 4 for 40 with a player option in year 4 be fair? Brunson may sacrifice some $, but turning down 40 million in your pocket is tough when you are a second round pick and have made around 4 million so far in the NBA. I also think 10-12 million for Brunson still keeps him as an attractive asset in the event that a bigger trade came about down the road. I think he would be more willing to sign if he got good vibes from the new coaching staff with a potential bigger role too.
Maybe it was pure coincidence that Cuban was in Philly and was pictured with Jalen at Villanova, but it raised my eyebrow. I would like Brunson back, but I thought he was a prime candidate for Mark to move this offseason.
