A Guwop sighting! Didn't know you were here.

Powell and a second works for me, but I'm not sure the Mavs would do that.

Brunson to Orlando makes a lot of sense...

Brunson for Mo Bamba and a protected 1st for our 2nd

Or

Brunson to Orlando
Bamba and the Orlando 1st to Sacto
THJ and Iwandu/Green to Sacto
Bagley and Hield to Dallas

As Luka gets back to being Luka and KP is about to return, I wonder if we should really expect some big trade in-season or even a big signing in the summer.  I suspect we'll see a nine man that includes:

Bigs:  KP/Powell/WCS/Maxi
Wings:  DFS/JRich/THJ
Handlers:  Luka/Brunson

You still have Boban, Johnson, Green and Burke on an as-needed basis.  It is certainly possible to find someone to replace pretty much anyone outside of Luka and KP, but at what price?  Pretty clearly they were willing to replace Brunson with Haliburton.  Pretty clearly they were willing to replace WCS with Gasol (when such a move cost them nothing this summer).  I'm just finding it difficult to construct anything more than a kiss your sister largely lateral move.  I'm not sure those are worth the disruption.  I'm starting to wonder if we don't just run this group out there all season.

There is still a lot of games till TDL. We are full of optimism after two good games but Mavs are still just 4-4. Of course - if the bunch is in top 3 West teams at TDL there is very little need for improvement. I could still argue that secondary creator would be very welcome to step up if Luka and/or KP miss time. Non Luka minutes have been awful in those last two games and we can really question ourselves how Luka will look by the playoff time if they will play him almost 40 minutes per game. But yeah, taking into account those assumptions - bringing in LaVine or Oladipo for substantial assets also brings questions, if it is really worth to pull the trigger. As I said before - Brunson might be a luxury we can't afford. He would deserve a bigger role than what Mavs are able to give him behind Luka.

However, if Mavs remain more around 50-60% of wins, so somewhere in the middle of the standings where they are now - good but not really contenders, they will definitely need to take a long look in the mirror and accept that team as it is has its limitations and moves are necessary to make a next step. Its nice to be buddies, but there are limitations.

As for line-ups, I still think Powell will not be part of the starting unit - he might even become a fifth big. I think PF will be manned by DFS, Kleber, Johnson and C with KP, WCS, Powell.

I agree.

Except (and my feelings on this change daily) I think it's possible that Johnson replaces either Powell or WCS on your list.

It was jarring to see Johnson without his locks last night.  Confused

I'm intrigued with John Collins.  He's 23 years old.  He's currently averaging 18 points 8 rebounds 2 assists and 1 block.  Shooting 55% from the field, 86% from the FT line.  He's a decent 3 point shooter, although only shooting 32% from 3 point land this year.  Last year, he shot a sizzling 40% from 3 point land.

2 Questions:

1) Can he play with KP?
2) Is he good defensively?

1) YES. He's almost ideal, offensively. Powell potential in the pick and roll, but WITH a perimeter game to match. Super great fit on that end.

2). No, not really. This is likely why Atlanta is playing with fire by not extending him, imo. Like you said, he's 23, so maybe he can improve, but to this point in his career, I think it has been a problem.

I don't want Collins for the price he will demand.  Rather go in another direction.  I don't "hate" Collins, I just don't think he should be part of the Mavs future.

"Collins also reportedly said he wanted to be involved in an offense with more ball movement and flow than the one that Young currently dominates."

What's up, JC? I hear you're a fan of the flow offense.

Mavs need to exchange THJ for a playmaker. They are already really good when KP is in the fold. Mavs should be fine for now but if they can upgrade THJ this can be a top contender.

The Mavs have room for only 1 more player who gets paid max, or close to that.

I like the idea of Collins, since he fills a position that the Mavs need filled, and has quite a few skills that would help. But I don't like the idea of targeting him as their last player who gets max money, if he's awful defensively. They really need that #3 guy to be a player who will help on both ends of the floor.

Honestly, I can't disagree with this.

Clock is ticking, though. Need to find someone by the end of the summer. This might require a standard lowering at some point.

So who are those players who can make an impact on both sides of the ball like y’all want?

I don’t even think they need a max type player if they can just get a really good player that fits as well or better than JRich

BTW no way do the Hawks trade with Dallas again. Even if Trae is really good it’s clear he’s NOT Luka and they clearly lost that trade.

If they traded Collins to us too and he went crazy here they’d get killed even more.

Fairly valid, lol.

This is a pretty simple 3-team trade https://tradenba.com/trades/C1pcqv36X

Pels get the shooting they desperately need. Magic get the point guard they desperately need. Mavs get the starting PF they desperately need.

We'd have only 19 million$ (and no WCS or MLE) if we intend to keep JRich.

The other way to bring a max player is via trade begore the trade deadline, when Jojo and Tim's salaries are still tradable.
