#18 PICK: Josh Green | 6' 5.5" | 6' 9.75" wingspan
#21
If he can become an elite defender, than the pick was great. He sure seems to have the tools.

Welcome Josh.

It sounds like he's an athlete and that's really what we need on the team. Him and Bey being drafted next to each other will be fun to watch. I hope Josh has some dog in him.

So I hope the Mavs know what they're doing. We will be comparing him and Bey for a while.

@"KillerLeft" I wanted to note the Mavs have been linked to Josh Green for weeks and I thought it was a smokescreen. I was dead wrong. Mavs didn't hide this at all really.

Good pick, I've been a Josh Green fan since I started researching prospects a few months back. He could be a bigger Gary Harris

Here is an hour and a half of tape on Green....watch it and tell me I am wrong on him.

I think the Mavs drafted for positional need. They desperately need a wing that can defend quick and athletic guards. That´s exactly what Green could be if the athleticism translates to on court impact. In terms of defensive versatiliy Bey was more of a 2-4. The Mavs picked a guy that can potentially guard 1-3.

I think this makes a lot of sense. Good call.

He definitely has one of the higher upsides for guarding 1-3.

Watching his Arizona tape does not look to me to be a "ready made" player.

Yeah, interesting for sure.

You might not agree with this, but I also feel like given who was there when they picked and how they seemed zeroed in on wings (also not a smokescreen) I feel like any attempt to move up was likely about Vassell.

We'll never know that, or if they were even trying to move up at all, but I just feel like they are being honest that they wanted length and defense with this pick. It's just the impression I get.

Of course they didn't. There was a 0% chance he was going to be off the board. Don't have to hide who you want when no one else wants him.

Hmmm, maturity -  does that mean he will be ok to sit on the bench?  Smile

That´s what I thought as well. He looks reallly raw. Great athlet but not the most skilled guy. He is not using his left hand at all.

So the thing is we need to trust uncle Ricky can do some magic (granted that magic didn't work on Justin Anderson).

He won't be asked to do much offensively other than catch and shoot. We need him to focus on defense. If Rick can turn DFS into a solid 3D guy maybe he can take this guy with higher upside and get him going as a 3D with more D potential.

He cant dribble or finish in traffic either.  He loses the ball half the times he drives into the lane and throws up weird flip shots/reverse layups.

He better be really damn good at 3 and D.  Just guard the opposing PG and stand in the corner and take open 3s.
