TRADE: Dallas receives Zaccharie Risacher in 3-team deal

Mavs have a deep roster of wings.   I would expect Zach is going to play quite a bit, right?  As is, shouldn't we start putting Flagg as your starting two guard?   Max gets that spot mostly because he is one of the few guards we have, but he is probably not one of the top 5 players on the team.    Flagg at Two guard opens up quite a bit.    Especially with more shooting.

I expect a few more moves, but really nice job by the FO>

Way too early to argue about the starting lineup, but with as much praise as they've heaped onto Christie and as much value as they're clearly putting onto shooting, I'd expect him to start.

BREAKING: The Oklahoma City Thunder trading All-Defensive wing Lu Dort to the Atlanta Hawks in a three-team deal that sends three second-round picks to OKC, former No. 1 pick Zaccharie Risacher to the Dallas Mavericks and Ryan Nembhard to Atlanta, sources tell ESPN.
We have never seen such type of deal ever before here, don't we?!

We received a former #1 FRP for a SRP + undrafted player. We never made such kind of trades before, so this fact alone gives me even more hopes than the trade itself...

Flagg
Morez
Aldama
Lively
Gafford
PJ
Naji
Cisse
Risacher
Tarik

That's like 10 guys I consider front court players, although several could slide down to guard depending on matchups.

Some of these could also serve as assets to address needs down the road.  Let’s see the plan unfold over the next 3 years.

I mean...the criticism over what Risacher has shown so far is valid. I personally think he wasn't helped by the fact that his draft class was so bad - he's definitely not a #1 pick, but we all knew that the night before that draft, so I'm not sure why people have been so surprised he hasn't made the impact of a #1 pick. Further, I think ATL is one of the least European friendly teams (and cities, more importantly) in the league, so it's not tough for me to imagine he's been unhappy there and has lost a lot of confidence.

I was into the idea of Risacher being the return for a freaking Anthony Davis trade (which he basically was), so of course I'm thrilled with this move.

I am sure we all did the highlight search during the AD drama, but not that it is official….

Same here. I was in the minority here who didn’t like the AD deal at all.  I would have been ok though if we got Risacher because at least I could see the rationale of at least taking a gamble on a top pick who is still very young

I am now thrilled that we still end up with him for so little. If he doesn’t pan out, so what. These are the types of low risk moves I want our management to take.

That AD trade essentially netted us Aldama, Risacher, Sergio, Sasser, Tarik and enough space to get us under tax for two seasons completely resetting the repeater.

I think this move points to the idea that Ujiri and possibly even Schmitz, who was very high on Risacher in that draft, consulting from a far at the trade deadline last season.

The Mavs had clearly identified Risacher as a target at that time, but ATL opted to go in a different direction. So what did the Mavs do? They turned Davis into air, got out of the tax and waited patiently, TPE in hand, for ATL's inevitable decision to move him. Kind of seems to me like they really like him, and that's why I do expect them to pick up that option in October, personally. Who knows if this actually works out for team and player, but I think they wanted this kid.

You know who else they were in negotiations to snag at last year's trade deadline? I'll give you a hint: Dan knows.

If they aim for cap space and a big free agent signing in 2028, maybe for Kyrie’s successor - and therefore two full development and growing seasons - then they will definitely keep him.

I don't care if they win 11 games - I'm going to enjoy watching this season so much more than the last couple.

Competition is good! With a new coach there are no preferences. The ones that win play.

Handing the Hornets a top five pick would be a bummer.  To borrow from a Midway classic, Blue Warrior Mavericks need Food Guards badly.  Kyrie is going to give us watchable basketball again, but I worry we'll run him into the ground and there is always the possibility of moving him by the TDL which would make us a bigger version of last years team.

Agreed, but it's the last management team's bummer, in a very real way. I really don't think the current team is helping anything by deceiving themselves into making short-sighted moves just to make that pick as low as possible. I mean, it could be a top-5 pick even in the best case scenario for how this W/L record ends up, for all we know. Better, imo, just to be honest about where the team is and get busy making the situation better.

Don't get me wrong - after they've assembled the team, I want them to win as many games as possible, but more so they get used to a winning mentality and culture than anything having to do with next summer's pick.

And hey, the chance that it ends up 1-2 and doesn't convey gives us something cool to dream about, anyway, not that I expect them to worry about that at all in any sort of "tanking" sense. But, they might actually be bad enough, organically, for that to be a topic around here. We'll see.

So basically, they got every cool thing they've picked up this summer except for Johnson, Lawal and Ishenko as a result of the Davis trade, and they're STILL not a taxpayer.

I say outstanding.

Well, we aren't done yet so I'm not damning MBT 3.0 (?) with this statement, but while MBT 2.0 created this mess, this iteration has started digging out of it and has created a traffic jam at the 3-5.  I'm not about short sighted moves either which is why the thought of trading for Jrue made me upchuck a little and that had nothing to do with everyone and their sister here trying to trade away our really good sixth man.  It's a fine line I suppose, but we sure could use a little experience at the 1-2 and if we are going to go the dinosaur route, we should look (or should have looked) at the FA pool.

Mavs have no incentive to lose as we are too talented and too unlucky to land in that top 2 protected status.  At worst this is a 30 win team and I suspect we'll crack 40. Like I said, we aren't done yet so it will be interesting to se if Landlord, Klay, and Martin ever suit up for us again and with whom they are replaced by.
