Tank watch for the last ten days of the season
#1
Ten days left in the season, including tonight. Three games of interest for today, Friday, 3 April 2026:

7:00 pm CST - Raps at Grizz. Raps have been pretty shaky going up against weaker teams this year.

7:30 pm CST - Magic at Mavs. As '21 said, a tanking trap game. Kidd had better be pretty slick with his lineups for us to pull this loss out.

9:00 pm CST - Pels at Kings. I know the Pels are segababa, but surely they can beat the lowly Kings...

Hopefully it's a night to keep the 6th-best odds.

Welp, we lost our game, but neither the Pels nor the Grizz won theirs. Looks like we have to lose all five of our remaining games in order to avoid a coin flip, but on the other hand, both the Pels and the Grizz play the Jazz pretty soon.

Nine days left, no games of interest today.

Kings two game winning streak, other nine teams 36 straight losses combined. You have to lose out to finish alone in 6th.

Uh Oh.  Austin Reaves out vs. Mav's (and rest of the regular season) with an oblique injury.  With Luka also out, not good for the tank.  Lakers missing their top two scorers.

Curse of the Luka trade.   Never trade a superstar who tends to get injured at the end of seasons when you are tanking and a win may be the difference of 6 vs 8.  Smile

Lakers in a fight with Denver for third.  Lakers looked positioned well with a lead and a tough Denver finish.  Looks much more difficult now.   Lakers only favored by 1.5 now.

8 days left in the regular season. Three big games today.

Grizz at Bucks, 2:30 pm CST - I don't have much hope of the Grizz winning any of the rest of their games (except maybe against Utah, depending on how loss-motivated they are), but the Bucks are one of the two realistic possibilities.

Magic at Pels, 6:00 pm CST - So frustrating. The Pels want to win games; they're still just not very good. And this Magic team is position-motivated.

Lakers at Mavs, 6:30 pm CST - This was my single most confident Mavs loss the rest of the way, and then Luka (and then Reeves) got hurt. Now it's our hardest game to lose other than Chicago. LeBron, I can't stand you, but feel free to have a vintage game today. I'm begging you.

I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his MRI
But something touched me deep inside
The day the tanking died

(I still believe in them, but I need a minimum of 25 shot attempts from PJ tonight)

Bulls still have two games to play against the Wizards, but they have a two game cushion on the Bucks now. This game tonight is the season. I´m already mad, cause Kidd will play Flagg, Marshall, Gafford, Thompson and PJ 18 minutes in the first half, take a 10 pt lead into HT and then try to lose a game against a team that can´t shoot. It will be Portland 2.0.

Going to be tough to lose this one going into the fourth with a ten point lead.

It's not nearly as tough as we're making it. We want to lose, and they want to win. Lose the damned game.

Welp. The Lakers have been the source of many of the most painful losses in Dallas's past. Now they're the source of the most catastrophic and calamitous win in franchise history. Back to a coin flip with both the Pels and the Grizz, and no chance we aren't beating the Bulls if Cooper plays.

Flagg is otherworldly. He can be a top 5 player or higher by June 2027

The Mavs just need to take care of their business. If the lose the rest, they at least have a tie for 6th seed.

But they also have a shot at better. Ainge to the rescue? The Jazz are neck and neck with SAC and the Kings aren't likely to win another. So included in UT's must-lose games ahead are BOTH the Pels (Tues) and the Grizz (Fri).

this guys suffering at our thrashing the lakers is at least something we can enjoy from this win and I concur that UTA is the king of the tank so NOP and MEM got another win coming for sure.

Cavs at Grizz, 7:00 pm CST. Lulz, the Grizz aren't winning this one.

"All we have to do is lose the rest of the way..." Ha! Have you seen who are opponents are? The Clipps, who have been shaky all year (the Pels beat them twice in games the Clipps needed to win)? The Suns, who will be segababa, set in their playoff position, and resting players? The filthy Spurs, who love to wreak havoc on us and force-feed us wins when we need losses? And Chicago (nuff said)?

If they don't sit Coop with a hangnail, they'll be *extremely* lucky not to end up in a tie for eighth with the Bulls. That's right. A loss in any of these four games - any one of them! literally! - will be a small miracle. All four? Seems existentially impossible to me, but we'll see.

Losing all 4 would be a breeze for Utah. If Dallas doesn't get fined they aren't trying hard enough.

I think the Mavs decided that getting Flagg the ROY was more important than sliding a slot or two in the standings.
