as a mavs fan I would find it weird to root against a team luka plays for but I wouldn't be unhappy if his team fails to qualify because in that scenario luka would have some more rest. mavs are a contender now an mavs should be the top priority for him imho. an Olympic gold medal would be a nice trophy for luka to collect but it's not like he and his team will have a legit shot at it tbh.

Luka Doncic will play with Slovenia in the Olympic qualifier in Greece against Croatia at 1 p.m. Central today.

He played in an exhibition match against Brazil on Friday. Here's an in-depth look at his 32-point, 7-assist performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ai4NUlWqWg

Honestly I think playing basketball is the best way to keep Luka in shape in the offseason.  Obviously I don't want to see him hurt, but if we want him fit and healthy at the start of the season then he needs to play bball in the summer.

They have by far the strongest tournament imho. They are probably the favoruites due to Luka, but I think there is a bigger than 50% chance they won´t win that tournament.

On one hand, I agree about the conditioning part since we have reasonable reason to believe that the alternative for him is to play overwatch and chug Bud Light all summer. (Half kidding)

But on the other hand, I think dude might need surgery, and I KNOW he needs to rest those injuries, at least. I have a sneaky feeling this might be leading to a place where he is trying to play himself into shape during training camp. Again.

Looks like Luka is ready for a long offseason. 4/15 from the field. Croatia up 15 in the 2nd quarter.

I can't knock him for wanting to play for his country. It's gotta be a huge deal for him.

But ultimately, he's gotta learn how to take care of himself or he'll have a short career. Playing overweight + playing year around, to me, seems like it would lead to a fairly short prime.
Not very astute ^^^^

First two from each group advance, so one win will do.

Luka is busy recruiting Saric, who has 15/10/7. I swear the guy is so underrated as a passer. Never see it in the NBA.

Hezonja also 12/5/5. Maybe we do that one to not piss the Warriors off even further.

Hezonja extended his contract for 5 more years with Real Madrid.

Saric could be interesting option.

Not sure why, but at some point around the play-off start, Lukas 3pt shot just dissapeared. Shots he was making at good percentage whole season just stopped going in. Most logical thing would be that it is related to one of his injuries.

I assume you've been glued to the team Slovenia stuff, so far. Has he looked any better?

Hezonja had a interesting journey in Europe. Now it's playing for Real Madrid for a 3 years and is proving he is one of the best players in europe.

He again made a little bit problems this offseason. First he agreed everything with Barcelona (their biggest rivals) while still playing finals series with Real, to later choose to not sign with them (after Real won a tittle) and then Real didn't want to extend him, but now he signed a new 5 year deal with them.

Basically in every interview he have he always spits on nba (as a league). Like basketball there is circus and i don't want ever to return there... There were some rumours this offseason that he could potentially come back to nba (before he signed extension), but he would demand playing time and his salary would at least have to be around BAE.

You assume wrong Smile I don't really follow national team much. Just saw boxscore of tonights game and he was 0-9 from three. Also noticed bad three point shooting in friendly against Brazil

I thought you were a die-hard team Slovenia guy. Aren't you one of like only 2 million people in that whole country? AND, you're into basketball? I have to follow up, sorry. How is it that you're not into the national team?

Saric as a back up PF wouldn't be bad. dude can do whatever maxi can on the offensive end, defensively not as good though. BAE or the remaining MLE should be sufficient for his service imho.

Luka Doncic on playing for Slovenia coming off a long NBA season: "We're two million [population], and to represent this country means everything to me. I want to say thanks to Dallas for letting me play... I always know I'm going to play, so it's a big honor for me."

I despise when things are done at a low amateur level and unfortunately I have a very low opinion on how our basketball association works. It seems like a bunch of people are just there riding the Luka wave while contributing very little. Despite huge overall success of Luka (and additional income he provides for assocciation), I don't see anything in Slovenian basketball turning for the better. Please note that Luka was correct to recognize he will not become the all world player in Slovenia and instead left for Real when he was 13.

National coach is no where near the quality Luka led team should have. It is clear he has zero authorithy over the stars (multiple as long as Dragic was still on the team, now it is singular). Every coach with an ounce of self respect would have stepped down after the debacle in last European championship. Players might have been too relaxed, but it is on him to get to them and get them to commit. If he can't, someone else shoud try or the players just don't have it. Obradovic, Serbias most respected coach and one of best (the best?) European coaches, stepped down when a similar thing happened in Serbia a decade or so ago. In any case, I can't stand it that we have a top 3 player in the world and we give him a third tear European coach. The success for Slovenia came when the coach was Kokoskov, who is in a whole other league compared to the current one.
