2023 DRAFT: Mavs take Lively, OMP, sign Mike Miles to 2-way, sign Jordan Walker

With College basketball starting today, I thought I would get this started.  The Mavs don't have a first round pick, so I will probably eventually focus on the under the radar type prospects, but the top of this draft looks great.

Wemby and Scoot are generally considered the top 2 and maybe franchise pieces.

Amen Thompson is generally considered the 3rd prospect

I used to know all about these prospects, that is not the case anymore.  I was watching some highlights and Cam Whitmore from Villanova stuck out for me.    Looks like the big physical wing who just causes all sort of problems.  Will be interested to see how he plays against older, mature players

I watched Emoni Bates last night.  Would t it be a hoot if Dallas ended up with Hardy and Bates?  In some ways they are similar.  Different body types.  Both are scorers who take really tough perimeter shots mostly.  Not great athletes and were both at the top of their class in high school.

Nice showing by him though.

As of today the Mavs don´t have a pick in next years draft. Looked at a couple of early mock drafts. They have Bates in the 35-45 range. Certainly possible to buy a pick in that range but knowing Cuban they would trade even more future 2nds instead.

Not to mention that he is going to move up in the first round (maybe even lottery) if the first game of the season wasn´t a fluke.

He is a dinosaur in todays game and his lack of foot speed may be the death blow for him in the nba.  But he is huge and has good hands and a nice touch.  He also not played basketball long and has gotten better each year.

Just a name to remember as a late second or undrafted guy to gamble on.

Does he have a really good personality and sense of humor? He could be the Boban replacement.

LOL, way too soon to say that. If the season ended today, with several of what were on paper likely to be their "easiest" games this year losses, they would be in the lottery.

If the season ended today, we would have a 6.1% chance of retaining our pick.

If the Mavs got really lucky and wound up with the #1 pick, they could potentially move the pick with Hardaway, McGee, Bertans, etc to make Plan Powder part 3 a reality!

Remember that at some point the Mavs had two 2023 2nd round picks. Given up to get rid of Delon Wright and add James Johnson.

If the Mavs get a pick from 7 to 10, I'd like this dude.
A smallish guard with a growth spurt almost often makes a good player.

Dude's comfortable in the perimeter, he's an actual wing, not a big.

Which is probably very close to what they actually would do, which is why I don't understand why we're even talking about it.

Now, if that NY pick had already conveyed and they could package that #1 overall with a future pick or two... well now we're talking about things like Durant, Siakim, SGA...whatever you want.

Everyone is about to say "eff that, give me Wemby!" But, something tells me the Mavs wouldn't see it that way and there's nothing we can do about it.

The best thing, by far, is to convey that pick and be done with it.

EDIT: SORRY, I DON'T MEAN THIS AS A WET BLANKET FOR THE DRAFT THREAD AT ALL. I probably should've just bit my tongue on this one - today's conversation has me feeling an edge.

Edey with 31 points and 21 rebounds yesterday

Another late round or undrafted guy is this guy.   Videos from last year but is almost averaging a double double.   Nice potential two way guy

I don't know much about this guy.   The Athletic has him right outside the lottery.   Only 17 years old.  His height says 6'9.  Looks intriguing for being so young.

Wow…this is the type of guy I have been looking for.  Big wing who can defend and create.  Hadn’t seen him before.  Will likely be a top 10 pick though.

Mike Miles, smaller guard from TCU, is interesting.  May not be highly rated due to being smallish but every time I see him, I think he is legit.   Has a lot of juice to his game.

Isaiah Wong from Miami is another tweener guard who may be an interesting second round prospect.
