Hardy has an uncanny ability to attack the rim and draw fouls. That is one of the most telling skills in terms of ceilings. We're not even 12 months removed from seeing him score 1 point for every 1 minute of game time as a rookie. Was it mostly in garbage time? Sure. But that doesn't normally occur even in garbage time that consistently.
The issue with Hardy right now is he has no clear defined role in the offense or even on the team. Kidd plays him in spot minutes in random quarters depending on how poorly other players are performing that night. Hard to find a rhythm that way at all. He mostly just stands around whenever he's paired with Luka. And he usually receives the ball only after Luka has dribbled out the shot clock and hasn't created anything.
Again does that always happen? No. Kidd HAS run some Iverson cuts for Hardy to middling success. He has also given Hardy the same multi screen set we've run for THJ at the top of the key again to middling success.
The only way Hardy will take off is if this team is restructured and he's given a bigger role. There will be growing pains. The question is do we want to invest that much into him?
