I think the better question is what does Dallas have that Philly wants. LAC really has a lot of trash to offer up in a Harden deal. Zubac is one of their better assets, but Philly has a center. So, one of the ways to pull off a Harden deal is to swap pieces to someone else who would then give Philly something want instead.
I know I keep harping on this, but I often notice people aren’t including it in their trade examples…If we did THJ for Washington as part of the Bertans/Holmes deal, we could actually absorb Zubac without sending out any salary and be under the first apron. The assumption being PJ makes what Hardaway makes or less. Of course, that would give us five centers and isn’t likely. Holmes played with Philly once upon a time. Maybe they’d take him back, but I’m not sure that is an ‘asset’ and I’m a Holmes fan.
Part of the puzzle is figuring out what Philly wants to do post Harden. They are basically a year from being just Embiid and Maxey. So do you assume a rebuild as they trade off Embiid? Do they value expiring money (Reggie) to go into the 2024 free agency market to build around Embiid and Maxey? Hard to know. And how does Dallas reduce its glut of centers if the team they are dealing with doesn’t need a center?
