With the trade spread we have left over from Bertans/Holmes ($12.5mm is $7.5mm plus the $5mm spread between Bertans and Holmes) and expiring Reggie, we can get to $23mm returning. Add in McGee and it is almost $30mm (because the outgoing crosses $29mm). Make the outgoing THJ/McGee and you get to really big numbers.
I struggle to see the remaining FA’s being worth that (but I’ve been surprised by a few). It seems more likely we are talking about an existing contract at those levels.
I agree with that, I am just not sure there are many teams left looking to reduce salaries (and there is still some competition from cap space teams). Clippers are a team that could appreciate tax savings as they just brought in a couple of younger players. Zubac and Morris seems like a combination that would make sense for Dallas. I think we could be compensated for taking Morris, but I am not sure about Zubac. Clippers want to contend, so what would they receive? Would Bullock+McGee satisfy them?
Most of the other teams cleared their caps nicely, I think. GSW is still high in tax, but will be probably fine next season, once Thompson signs lower deal.
Unless of course, Mavs bring 2027 pick on the table.
