I'm fine with the idea of starting a rim runner to set screens for Luka to start halves. Running a lot of spread 1-5 pick and roll has traditionally been a great way to get Luka going, and lord knows it plays to his strengths.
But, the key word is spread. If that's the plan, I really, really don't get starting Dinwiddie over Hardaway. Seems like the move is to make sure that 1-5 pick and roll has space to dominate, making it as difficult as possible to contain. I doubt Dinwiddie is going to catch and shoot as well this year as he did after the trade, but even if he is able to keep that up, it's still not using his minutes to the greatest effect, imho, especially given the obvious, glaring shortage of ball-handling on this roster.
It DID work, it's just that by that point all of the defenses are great at seeing the first option (roller) coming and taking it away. That's how Luka ends up making people look so silly in the playoffs, because the defense is taking the screener (not only Powell, but certainly Powell when he's in there) away. It's also how Kleber got those 8 3's to drop from the corner against Utah, because Gobert had to make a choice on those plays.
