The absolute key to last year was the three-playmaker construction after the trade for Dinwiddie. Now we have two. If that isn't addressed, of fricking course the Mavs are going backwards, and it's rather a gaslight to assert otherwise.
I'm thinking the biggest key in the second half of last year was Luka finally playing himself into shape and playing like a superstar. After that I would say it was getting ride of the bad chemistry of KP while replacing most of his offense with Din and Bertans. I'm not sure how much having two playmakers on the court at one time changed the offense. It seems to be more of I go you go. I'm actually really interested to see the impact of having Wood out there.
I think Brunson's biggest value was when Luka was off the court. That is what we are going to miss him the most. My hope is that with Luka's new focus on conditioning it wont be that much. Still very worried about playmaking depth, but I bet we start this next season better than we started the last one.
