I will say, not sure you did this on purpose or not, but you left Hardy and Pinson off the list giving us only 1 spot left on the roster. If that is Dragic, the roster becomes imbalanced, but it’s fine to be imbalanced because of the trouble spots I see in the part of the roster that holds the most developmental players.
This team was close to a 50 win team when Brunson was a benchwarmer, THJ was the starting 2 guard, and KP was in and out of the lineup.
If we take today's Mavs and compare them to 2 seasons ago we got:
Luka/Dinwiddie/Frank Luka/Brunson/Burke
Bullock/THJ THJ/Richardson/Reddick
DFS/Green DFS/Green
Wood/Maxi/Bertans KP/Maxi/Melli
McGee/Powell Powell/WCS/Boban
To me there are already CLEAR upgrades from that team that posted a 47 win pace despite the fact KP played in almost half the games. The wing rotation has filled out. Wood should be a more reliable KP without attitude issues (I'm praying at least). McGee is a solid 10mpg guy but Maxi is the real star of the show. AND the Mavs still have Dinwiddie who proved to be a valuable 6th man. Probably most important though is that the team has a coach that the players are happy to play for.
Looking at our current roster getting another wing and Dragic should solidify it.
Barring a big shakeup trade, I think we see a TON of basketball this year with Maxi and Wood in at the same time. Who is the C and who is the big wing in that situation? Who cares. I think on defense, they are interchangeable as rim protection with Wood being a good rebounder. On offense, Maxi can do his thing on the 3 point line (hopefully being taught to set off ball screens and looking for openings to cut to the basket) and Wood can do his 3 level offensive thing working mostly as the on ball pick and roll partner.
If we don’t move Powell, I think he and McGee share at most 25 mpg as the surefire C and for sure not any clutch minutes to speak of. If we move Powell and get another C, I think that thought stays relatively the same. If we don’t return a C (make the move for a better backup to DFS like say, Thybulle), I think Bertans sees a lot more minutes than he would if Powell stays. That makes it more time on the court with 2 big wings because McGee still probably only plays the first 5-6 minutes of the game and 3rd quarter, then spot minutes to enforce control of the boards. Don’t think we see much of Bertans/McGee on the floor barring injury and there are lineups that will make sense with DFS playing the big wing spot too.
