MAVS NEWS: Exum to Miss 3 Months w/Wrist Surgery | Mavs Waive Lawson

My thinking as well.  The Mavs will be just fine with 2024 Klay as a shooter who makes some effort on defense.

Not necessarily from media guys, but from some of the best players in the league, which counts much more in my opinion.

Concerning KD‘s Top 5 - I think he maneuvered himself in that spot by starting with Luka as his point guard and adding himself and LeBron. He then chose Embiid because he shoots the three better than Jokic and wanted the best shooter with size that he could imagine to stretch the floor and take advantage of all the open shots - and therefore came up with Klay as his forward.

So he didn’t necessarily form a team of the 5 best individual players, but tried to build the most unbeatable team. I like that a lot, because we can transfer his chain of thoughts to our team with Klay next to Luka and Kyrie, can‘t we?

And, one thing KD has proven is that he knows how to assemble a championship team!

Klay Thompson planned a trip to Catalina Island for a team bonding experience and as a veteran he loved providing this moment to the team.

He speaks on chemistry for the Mavericks ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Great video of Klay talking about the trip he had with Lively, PJ, and other Mavs earlier this summer.

Mark Cuban interview on Wired.com

I like that his wish is to buy Twitter + Fox News despite not being remotely close money wise to being able to do so.

Cause the one thing I've always thought to myself was "Dang how can I listen to Mark Cuban MORE!"

Ya, well Cuban would have just been a face supported by much deeper pockets.

So Media day is Sept. 30th, then practices in LV October 1-4 (no distractions there!) before spending the rest of the pre-season in DAL.

Any reporting about who is already around AAC? I thought I heard something about Klay being in town. I guess some of the younger guys call DAL home, so they are somewhat available. Don't know Kyrie's status after the hand injury. Anyone know Luka's schedule?

Ready for the gang to get back together and the board to wake up again!

Aside from the random workout video, there's not much info. I believe Klay is already in Dallas since he had that fundraiser with Dirk.

I can't wait for media day and for the season to get underway!

Random Offseason Trade Idea:

The Bucks may consider blowing things up at the deadline or after. Would you consider a PJ/Lively/Allz-the-picks base for Giannis?

It'd have to be PJ+Gafford+Maxi+Naji just to get the money to work.

Now I'd give a lot to see a Giannis+Luka PnR. But I'd rather not give up half the team. Unless the Mavs included Kyrie in the deal there is no feasible way to get to that number.

And I can't believe Im saying this but I wouldn't trade Kyrie for Giannis. He's too important to the team imo. Sure, talent wise its a no brainer. Giannis is leaps and bounds better. But sometimes you need chemistry more than talent.

I would love to pair Luka and Giannis.

But let's be real - MIL is not trading Giannis. PERIOD. It's like another team trying to calculate the right offer for Luka -- it's not happening, so why bother? MIL doesn't even take the call.

Last October, Giannis signed a 3 year $175,369,471 extension with the Bucks, and the earliest he can be a FA is the summer of 2027. He has given no indication of wanting out. He won a title in MIL. They have been very good, and have been working hard each season to assemble the best team possible around him. They take care of him.

If MIL wants a makeover next summer (and they might), everyone else could be available. But not Giannis.

I wouldn’t be willing to give up all that it would take. They would be amazing together but I personally want Lively and PJ here long term. It’s only going to get harder to team build around two or three stars.

Agreed, and in the 1/100 parallel universe where MIL did decide they had to trade him, the offers they’d get would be much better than anything the Mavs could possibly offer. They simply do not have the draft capital necessary to bid for anyone remotely close to the level of a top-10 player.

I think the supposition would be in some of these cases, player X says to team “get me to Dallas.” Would be tough with Giannis since he’s signed thru 2027. But it could possibly happen with another top 100 player.

Fun discussion though. I think between OKC (especially) rising and SAS with Wemby looming, we have to absolutely nail almost every transaction from here on out. Whether it’s drafting, trading, evaluating our youngsters, upcoming contracts for Hardy, Grimes, Gaff, Kyrie. It needs to all be absolutely on point. In Nico We Trust!

Totally, and I get that. And, I agree that the phenomenon to which you're referring would almost have to be in the equation for Dallas to get involved with any sort of even just "all star adjacent" type. But, for every guy who maneuvers like that and gets where he wants to be, there's at least one who gets stranded somewhere less than ideal for him. The most recent example I can think of is Dame Lillard, who ironically ended up playing with Giannis in MIL after it became clear POR wasn't simply going to gift him to MIA.

Draft capital matters, and the Mavs have always spent it faster than they can stack it. It's my main worry about the next five years.
