1 What about the "second apron rule" would prevent a team from re-signing its own players, if they wanted to do so? I don't understand.

2 I don't buy the Kyrie-to-HOU idea as something with real potential.
    (a) I can't see the "asset math" as making sense to DAL, having paid so much to get Kyrie, then they let Kyrie walk.

1. IF DD opts out and IF he wants more than the Warriors are able to give him as a non-Bird FA (which given his level of play this season, I think he deserves), then what does Golden State do?

2.  In the snippet you copied, I made reference to a post from the previous day.  Don’t know if you read it or not, but in it I made all the requisite qualifications.  I assumed I didn’t have to do it each time I speak of Kyrie and Houston.

Since Dallas doesn’t necessarily have a choice in the matter, the word “let” probably is poorly chosen.  Kyrie gonna do what Kyrie gonna do.  Yes, the most likely scenario is staying in Dallas.  Yes, playing with the kids in Houston isn’t likely (unless he can secure another star to join him).  Yes, Houston might prioritize someone else…blah blah blah.  

But, there is a universe where I can see Kyrie and a star deciding to join up in Houston to get the money they want.  Houston would need to clear a bit more space, but it wouldn’t be difficult at all.  In that scenario, Dallas would find itself with three options…1. Help facilitate Houston getting more cap space.  2.  Pay something for a TPE in the $40+ million range.  3.  Lose Kyrie for nothing and have only $30mm in space.  Yeah, it might take paying something to get the a TPE for a player you already paid a ton to get. But that is the risk you take when you trade for UFA’s.

We’ll know in about 2 1/2 months.  We can spend that time continuing to bemoan past mistakes or we can look forward and examine all of the things that could go wrong and all of the opportunities we might have…even if not the most likely outcomes.  Frankly, I’m choosing to move on and look forward.
