AROUND the NBA: ATL Jumps from #10 to #1 in Lotto| Pistons Mull Firing GM
Lofton Jr with 42pts and 14reb. Shooting 17/25 from the field. Game had summer league vibes but it feels like the Grizzlies never miss on late 2nd round picks or undrafted guys.
He is more or less unplayable in a real game but as a longterm project he is one of the most interesting young guys in the league. Task is simple. Slim down and improve on defense without losing the strength advantage on offense.

I don't see how he's back after something like that. Even Prince pushed the f outta him in response.

Part Deux:

Allegedly Kyle Anderson walking back into the tunnel after the game and an employee got some audio of what he said:

not the rebounder we need, otherwise he'd be a really good fit at PF

Gobert is a problem! But yeah I can definitely see Cuban giving up whatever assets they can to try to acquire him

Or perhaps Atlanta already realized Trae is not good enough to be a leader of a contender.

Also, price for guys like Turner or Anunoby might be sky high.

a small point guard (big winspan though) who can't shoot isn't a big need, but if he is not picked up, Chandler is the type of player this franchise should gamble on.   Gamble on several of them.   For a team without a second round pick, offer him a legit chance for a two way or roster spot.    Still really young.

agree, should give Chandler a try. Even for name sake alone he deserves a chance.

trae ain't the right piece to build a successful team around. he is good at offense but at defensive end he ain't no presence. a poor man's kyrie imho.

Draymond (starting a bit over 15:00) saying:
- would love to finish career in GSW, but not up to him
- new CBA will probably not allow him finishing there
- very realistic he will still contribute in 4 more years
- doesn't sound motivated to contribute on another team (my impression, because he said he got nothing to prove he can contribute in another team than GSW)
- wants fair market value
- Warriors have always make sure that he was taken care off

This was always my fear with Dray. If he's not 100% bought in then he's useless. Dude thinks he's a lot better than he actually is.

If he actually wants fair market value, is he ready to take a pay cut? Cause honestly, is he worth what he’s getting paid now? Especially to a different team that he self admittedly confessed to not being 100% all in on playing for.

He says he’ll contribute in 4 years, but he is steadily trending downward. What type contribution will that be? Certainly not equal to the contract he wants.

Disagreed.  He's the glue that makes that system go.  The fair question is, does his skillset translate to another team/system.

Dray and Luka have a special relationship.  It's too bad Dray is headed down the final stretch of his career.  If he was in his late 20s, I wouldn't mind kicking that tire but not now for the money he wants.

Mavs already made an all-in gamble with Irving. Can't imagine he lasts sane more than 2 years. Looking at that, I don't have much of a problem adding Green and hoping he lasts 2 years and we try to win a title in this window. Players on a title team have value and smart FO might move on while they still have some. Of course, if the gamble doesn't work, it will be scorched earth. But what really is an alternative? There is obviously no long term plan here or Mavs wouldn't go after Kyrie.

8th seed Hawks blowing out the 7th seed Heat. Up 23 with 2:45 left in the 2nd quarter.
Heat finished the season 44-38. Hawks 41-41.

I hate the play in tournament in the current format.  9 should play 10 for a shot at playing the 8 seed.  And the 8 seed should only need to win 1 of 3 games versus the winner of 9/10.

Atlanta has a good roster.  Maybe not contender worthy but they have a lot of nice pieces with some youth as well.  Games like tonight just drill home that Collins isn’t really needed.  They have youngsters who need playing time moving forward.

That Miami team is maxed out.  They are really tough but they appear to be stuck in the middle.  They do find away to get a star though when things appear bleak. They have made some Dallas level mistakes in free agency and trades though.  Unlike Dallas, they do have a great player development program.

capella with a huge game on the boards.  Looked at that trade.  Very interesting.  It was a 4 team trade.  I believe the hawks gave up Evan Turner, a first from Brooklyn and a second from Golden state.  Not bad.
