Talent is out there to find. I wish the Mavs were better at this. Hardy, I think, is a hit. But the Mavs need to find more. DFS and Maxi were a long time ago.
They pursued three max players in Lebron, AD, and Westbrook, leaving mostly minimum salaries to fill out the roster. So it was much easier for marginally talented rookies and young players to find playing time.
Remember all the THT hype?
And Caruso actually turned out to be a decent, middle-of-the-road NBA player. Of course, they couldn't afford him at that point.
So Austin Reeves landed in an ideal spot for his development. He benefits from all the double-teams their superstars get, and has very little pressure to perform. Anything the team gets from him is gravy. And his competition for playing time is minimal.
Will he be a solid rotational piece on a good NBA team? Time will tell.
