They have no long-term plans. It´s always the same 12 months cycle; short-term/best team possible next season plan.
If they really had an 18 months plan, Dinwiddie + THJ would be in Brooklyn right now, Bertans and Irving would be in Los Angeles and Westbrook in Dallas.
That trade has everything all the teams desire, except that the 18 months plan doesn´t exist.
Also always cracks me up, when people say capspace is useless. No what´s useless is how the Mavs use it.
Always targeting players out of their reach, that don´t want to play here.
Always focusing on old/roleplayers that have zero re-trade value or upside.
Never selling capspace for future 1st round picks (part of that strategy also involves not being very cheap).
The Spurs just got three 1st round picks for a former 29th pick. That likely means the Spurs have received more first round picks in one single trade than the Cuban Mavs have in 20 years. Seriously I can´t even think of a single 1st round pick we have received.
