Sheesh. 2nd year Thibs happened soon huh?
Yeah, they are a mess right now. I think they are much more than just clearing some space so they can sign Jalen Brunson to fix their mess. They really need to take a step back and evaluate. Last year they had a lot of excitement and you could envision them becoming a FA destination again. Now?
They may need to make some tough decisions this year. Do they go all in if Dame hits the market? Do they move some of their high priced veterans just to get off the contracts? Do they step back and focus on development of the youngsters while waiting for the next big free agent to make it to FA? Is Coach Thibs really the guy to be there for the next 5 years? I think those need to be the questions rather than seeing if you can free up 18 million or so for Jalen.
Man, I have been really impressed with Anfernee Simmons on my brief watches of Portland. He has one of the purest jumpers I have seen. Nurkic has been playing better too. They are going to have an interesting decision. Do they keep Lillard? If not, what teams can offer the most now? If they get lucky in the lottery with both their and New Orleans protected pick, they may an interesting team sooner than later.
