2021-2022 MAVS NEWS: 4th in West | WCF loss [ARCHIVED]
I would much rather Porter Jr than Payton II.

I think we are down to two scenarios:

1 - Neither the Mavs nor Knicks know what JB's decision will be and both are preparing their best offers and, in the Knicks case, lining up the necessary moves to facilitate the needed cap space

2 - Both the Mavs and the Knicks know JB is headed to NY and they are talking SnT.  In that instance all the Mavs can really hope to recoup is whatever it would cost for the Knicks to off load Noel or Burks to another team.

In addition to whatever the JB move is I am hoping any Mavs/Goran deal is vet min and they fully intend to spend their TPMLE on a wing or big, whichever they don't get in a potential JB SnT.

I also think they have one more trade in them to attempt to clean up any potential roster logjams after JB, Goran, TPMLE are resolved.

I don't think the Mavs see it that way at all. My sense of things is that they want to improve their rebounding WITHIN the same setup. While they want to rebound better, I think they won't sacrifice their offense or their setup to get there (ie, I don't think they would only have 1 creator and 2 bigs on the floor).

Right now on the roster they employ 3 bigs (Wood, Maxi, DP). While I like the idea of a player like Hartenstein or Smith, I am coming to see those as very unlikely because of assets to spend, opportunity, and a lack of willingness (imo) to tie up a 4th roster spot there.

Too big of an injury risk.

If you're right, that's completely unfortunate.  GS killed us with a frontcourt of Looney/Green/Wiggins.  We could better match with Wood/*PF/Finney-Smith.

*PF = Randle or Collins

By the way, Randle (12th), Wood (9th), and Collins (16th) were both top 20 rebounds per 48 minutes last year.

PG - Luka
SG - Dinwiddie
SF - Finney-Smith
PF - Randle or Collins
C - Wood

Assumption here is that Brunson is used to trade for Randle or Collins.

Brunson leaving for nothing is going to leave a really bad taste in my mouth for a very long time. How can an organization that thinks they're competent fumble the Brunson situation so badly? From the contract that allowed him to be a UFA in the first place, to having two chances to give him and extension and refusing. It's such an epic unforced error.

The Mavs have literally not had a single unambiguously good offseason since 2011. Not one

Does the possibility of a 3-team SnT mean were possibly getting Noel?
