Will JJ Redick be with Mavs in November
#1
So far we have covered:
- JRich with 95 % thinking he is gone
- Brunson with basicaly 50-50 split
- Hinton with 60 % for staying on only 10 votes
- Green with 87 % staying
- THJ with 65 % thinking he is gone

So lets continue with latest addition Redick. Do you think he will wear Mavs uniform in November?

If Mavs operate over the cap I would think it would make sense to resign him. I think his vet presence and overall respect he has around the league is worth much more than his on field contribution. I doubt he is worth (much) more than vet min around the league.

But I expect Mavs to operate under the cap, so I think he will be gone.

A lot of factors to consider.
What is JJ value around the league? Is it vet minimum? Or something more?
If it is more we won't sign him, not worth it for us.

If it is vet minimum,  then he will sign with A-biggest chance to win a chip (not us) B-close to home.

But one thing lost in JJ upset about the trade, his family settled in Brooklyn because they thought NBA season will start in March, so now with NBA back to regular times he isn't attached to certain area. He will go for best offer.

I just think the only way we make the best offer, is us being the only offer (or only decent team making offer)

He doesn't want to be here and we shouldn't want him here.

He has zero attachment to the city or the franchise and he's made plenty of money, I suspect he would rather retire than play here for the minimum.

Anywhere outside of a close proximity to New York.  He wants to play close to where his kids are being schooled.

Better question. Was JJR with the Mavs last season? For some reason a famous podcaster started to travel with the team but he did not play a single minute in the playoffs. No reason for the Mavs to want him back. No reason for JJR to return if the Mavs aren´t offering more than market value (vet min, maybe BAE).

Better idea. Powell is overpaid and probably will be a backup or even end of the bench guy for the rest of his career. He needs to earn his paycheck. Thankfully he is a really smart guy. We need a Dwight podcast.

I'm familiar with the thinking. When he talked through it, this was mostly about quarantine rules.

His desires might not (probably won't) change for this year, but...you never know.

I would gladly take him back, and I'd pay him more than the minimum on a 1-year deal.

I don't think it was quarantine rules, though those made things worse.  He wants to be near his kids as much as possible.  He's also 37 and injured.  He was a complete waste of a SRP.

Was, but wouldn't have been if he hadn't retweaked the injury.

I would do it again.

I agree he is at a point where, in a general way, he wants to make it close to home (near Brooklyn, where his family lives). We learned that 2-3 years ago through his documentary.

What he SAID after this last trade was that the situation this past season with his kids' school-quarantine rules was that he wasn't even allowed to see them on weekends because he wasn't living with them. I guess their school was super fancy and careful about such things. For that matter, though life is back to normal here in Texas (as far as most people care to see) I suppose it's possible that schools like that will be uber careful again this school year. Who knows.

I'm just saying IF it's feasible, I would LOVE to have him back, personally. He didn't give any indication that he didn't enjoy his time here, or that he was anit-mavs in any way. I don't blame him a bit for wanting to work closer to home if he has the opportunity.

Yeah so did Derek Fisher.

Let me put it this way. If by some miracle we can successfully build a LEGIT LEGIT contender this summer, then I see a scenario where the Mavs outbid every other contender with an above minimum offer, that keeps Redick here. But I say the odds of that happening are less than < 5%.

Fisher wanted to be here, didn't honor the contract he signed, and requesting his release.  JJ didn't want to be here but honored the trade and was with the team for the duration of his remaining contract.
